If it were my decision, I'd pick something else. Custom made might be better, but it might also be worse. It all depends on who is doing the work and where they're getting their materials. Burns Stainless makes some of the best collectors and X pipes out there. If a shop is using Burns, they're concerned about quality and will likely do excellent work (no guarantees, but at least they're starting with good stuff).

This past weekend I got stainless steel T304 piping welded in place of the secondary cats and mufflers.....and the car sounds amazing. I got the work done at Elite Auto Works NY... a shop that does custom fabrication, auto repairs, alignments, etc in Goshen, NY. Much thanks to Jon for the welding. He ordered the piping from Vibrant Performance, who manufactures and sells stainless steel components for exhausts. I was able to see him do all the work... although it hurt me to see him cut the exhaust, when I heard the car after the work was done, I was speechless, as were other customers and employees at the shop. To know that this mod is reversible gave me peace of mind as well.
Here are my impressions:
- I have never heard anything that sounds like it on the road - very unique
- Sounds very loud and throaty at cold startup, tapers off after warming up
- Lots of drone at 2k rpm, but mainly on uphills on the highway
- On level ground drone can be controlled, btwn 1.5k and 2k rpms car sounds stock
- Very loud when in manual mode above 2.5k rpm's, but sounds great
- Sounds amazing when blipping throttle on downshifts
- Acceleration sound is sublime at WOT, still slightly hear secondary intake after 4k
I did this mainly for sound purposes, but knew that the car lost ~60lb. and also let the exhaust breathe with the piping replacing some restrictive components. I don't think I will be removing the resonator, as it will get too raspy. This is the perfect amount of noise, and is pretty loud as is.
Thanks to: Juanca, DCoolBeans, PhiDeltBee for answering my q's....and Jon at Elite Auto Works NY.

Here's a clip of my F with mufflers deleted only. Don't mind my brother's 2011 M3, we were having fun launching each others cars. Enjoy
