Default Do mods stress the engine?

Do aftermarket mods stress the engine to an ISF?
  • Intake
  • Exhaust
  • Headers
  • Springs

I know that lowering kit doesn't deal with the engine but thought i'd throw it in there..
Thanks!

Those modifications do not.

I am assuming by "springs" you mean lowering springs for the already great suspension that is on the car.

Our motor has a forged crank and forged rods, its pretty stout. You usually only find those things in race cars and very expensive forced induction motors.

What really stresses an engine is beating on it when it is cold (oil is not up to temp yet / valve springs are still cold) and "lugging" it (being in too high off a gear at too low of a speed)

Mods don't stress an engine any more than regular forum members do.

wait. probably not what you're asking.

Mods don't stress engines or cars. Drivers do. If you have an engine capable of 1000 hp, but never put the pedal to the floor, then you've never fully stressed the engine.

If you mean is it possible to accelerate the wear on the engine if you mod it AND drive it hard compared to not modding it and driving it hard, yes, there is some of that, but with the mods we can successfully do to the F, it would be difficult unless you're going through a couple of bottles of N2O every week.

At the end of the day, it's all about how you use it and how you maintain it, not really about how you mod it (with what's currently available).

I foresee the next question being, "Will these mods void my bumper to bumper warranty?"

Yes, plan on it. It is normal business practice for any dealer to try and void your warranty when given anecdotal evidence that your mod it, as it is in their best interest. The void should be just to the system that you have modded and not the whole bumper to bumper warranty. If hesitant, only do aesthetic mods like suspension, wheels and/or body kit. It's all about the risk you're willing to take and how "mod-friendly" your dealer is.
