Same thing happened to me, the "Oil Level Low light" flashed on, and then went off... then after letting the car sit for a few hours I checked the oil and the level was fine. Not sure why my light went on...

You were probably at some incline

I've seen the light come on many times but things checked out perfectly fine

Good point vraa, when it went on I was at my friend's house, and it was a steep incline... Whew, thank god...

If it makes you feel any better, the only problem with the is-f on inclines is the oil light

On my bmw the parking brake is so messed up I gotta put blocks behind my car for it to not roll into the street.....

It's not difficult to change the oil....but I rather keep Lexus shut in case anything happens. I don't have the time to run back and forth to court because they state I have no service record.

I believe by law you only need to keep a journal of service and or keep invoices of the oil and filter purchases which can be considered acceptable in court of proof of your service diligence. This will then boil down to a workmanship issue and if you installed the parts correctly.

...but it is much less painless to go the "Do It For Me" route.

Some of the posts in here are hilarious to say the least!!!

I change my own oil..
There are MANY reasons why, but I am not going to even mention them here..

If the "Oil Level Low light" is coming on often, that you don't have enough oil in the system.

If it's once in a blue moon, when you’re parked on an incline, it could very well be that the oil sensor is not detecting enough oil at that time..
(Which is not a bad thing, but it could also be that you dont have the right amount in there.)

Officially, the IS-F calls for 9.8 Qts of oil w/ Filter..

That translates to approx. 9 Qts & 26 Ozs.

Now, I have taken the stance to put all 10 Qts in, basically because I allow my oil to drip for an extended amount of time.. So I am sure I am getting a little extra out..

The extra .2 Qts of oil I put in equates to approx. 6 Ozs..

Check your dipsticks once a month between oil changes.

I know I do..

Very good advice, IMO anyone with a performance car should not go more than 1 month without checking / topping off the oil
Thankfully the Bimmers do it all in a computer so it'll tell me when I need +1qt or +2qt

I got into the habit of checking oil when getting fuel every time the odo goes to the next 1000.

I'm sure the guys on this forum who change their own oil is not your average person. I and the others change our own oil because we'd prefer to do it ourself than let somebody do it and screw up. I've read and encountered countless small mistakes of simple oil changes gone horribly.

I work in the car business I hear complaints all the time about simple oil changes gone wrong. I'd rather not be a statistic.
