Might it be that it is the gasket failing and they replace the pump too as a precaution?

There won't be an LSB for this. It's easy to see when there is a problem, and it will only be addressed if there is evidence of a problem. The procedure is in the FSM, and the new part is likely the only one currently available, so you'll get the new part iff your unit fails, so there's no need for any kind of service bulletin.

Service bulletins address problems requiring a procedure or inspection not included in the repair manual. This is just a simple warranty claim for any failures.

BTW, checked mine - zero evidence of any leakage.

I looked at my car- 23k miles and the fluid is low. I couldn't see any dried up antifreeze, but I need to look when the car isn't in the garage (lighting is bad).

My fluid was at the low mark after 47k miles, but there is no pink anywhere outside the reservoir.

The old part number is superceded by the new one. You couldn't get the old part even if you wanted one.

i know the 4 cylinder toyota motors have this issue too. When i had my xb, some people reported this issue. some think it is the coolant that eats away the seal but no one has confirmed it yet

i quickly checked mine today and didnt see any pink crust but my coolant level it low. Guessing it normal after two years of slight evaporation out of the resevoir

Reviving this thread... I have no leaking, I don't see any pink at the bottom of my engine bay, but the coolant level is LOW. does this mean I still need to get the water pump replaced? And this should be covered under factory warranty right?
