The Lexus XM tuners were discontinued because the number of units in stock were getting low, and Lexus decided to keep them for replacing defective units in customer's cars. (according to my dealer)

Vais Installation
You can get XM radio with one of our kits. Model number SL2xD2. It also requires XM tuner - also available through us. If you have a shark fin antenna on the roof you can get an adapter from us to utilize it to get Sat reception vs installing additional antenna, model number SFA12F. Interface with the tuner will cost you $301.99 and shark fin antenna adapter will cost you another $59.99.
SL2xD2 will work just like the factory XM radio kit, no difference whatsoever.

Well I decided to go with the XM Skydock for 100$ and use my ipod touch to as the tuner. it works really well and it is the least expensive way for me to get Howard. I didn't want to spend all kinds of cash and have some idiot installer screw up my IS-F. I instead installed the magnetic antenna just above the windshield and ran it behind the dash to the tuner and all is good. Removal is just as easy too if so needed.
I liked this setup rather than the others that either mount on the windshield or on the vents.

So the VAIS kit does not install in the rear of the car where the factory harness is? I looked at the wiring harness today at Sewell Lexus and it looks very similar to the old factory XM kit harness. I REALLY do not want to pull my nav unit again, so I am making sure. Also, Does that mean I will have to run my antenna all the way back from my head unit to my rear window? I really hope this can connect to the trunk harness, as its already there anyway.

I thought these cars have Sat/XM standard. ^^ I like this idea. I stopped using my ipod a while back. I just stream music now from my iphone
