adjustables? BTW, anyone have any advice on a cost effective setup? I need some DR's but I don't want to mount them on the stock rims.

I just ordered some Mickey Thompson 245/40/18's... 26" total tire height. Going to put on my Enkei PF01 18 X 9.5's... I'm guessing the car doesn't need a 'big' tire just something sticky will be more than enough. The Mickey Thompson calls the 245/40/18 a 26 X 9.5 X 18... so gonna check it out... also pretty light at 25lbs...

I run the same exact tire and size at the drag strip and haven't had any traction issues with it.

 

Whats everyone launching at? Whats the highest stall provided by the TQ converter, 2500rpm?
James, whats it going to take to get more consistant 1.8's?

Only way to get more consistent 1.8's is with more power. Seems that from my experience and just about everyone else's is that launching around 800-1100rpm works best.

Not sure about the stall for the TQ converter, but I can tell you that this car launches horribly at anything 1500rpm and higher.

 

We really need a higher stall TQ converter but until somebody cracks the ECU/TCU we'll never see it. Also, somebody has put in 4.1 rear end from the IS350 into their IS-F and I bet that'll help. Another "cheat" is to use tires of slightly lower diameter so that'll also give shorter gearing. Short-staging is another help. Also, more HP but so will less weight. If you were able to get 200 lbs off the car, I'm sure you'll be in the 1.8s easily.

 

I think the 245s should be on a 8.0" rim. For some reason, my MT245/40/18's are actually thinner than my 18x8.5 RE30s and there is NO rim protection from the sidewalls of the tires - if you put the wheel on the ground on their sides, the actual rim will touch the ground and not the sidewall.

 

FWIW, you can cheat the LSD by putting on the parking brake just enough to drag (3 - 4 clicks). It will make the rear wheels spin together. It will also wear out your parking brake, but it's an effective poor man's LSD in a pinch.

 

At your power level it should do well. Let us know how you like them

 

Will do guys! Cayman... glad to know you're running the same setup... making more power. And tooth... I agree an 8.5" would probably be best... but since I have my road racing 9.5's in the garage... I'll use them...

Tires ship this week... doubtful I will get them in time for this weekend... and I have a road race event next weekend... so may be till the 12th that I can run them.

Hi all, have a question for you guys that like to take your F to the drag strip, I'm about to order a set of MTs and have two choices (trying to decide which is best)

Option 1, MT 245/40/18 on a set of stock is 350 front rims ( those are the ones i have i know)test fitted and they do fit

Option 2, MT 275/40/17 on a set of xxr 22 (thanks to DV8) research,

Do you guys think one will have and advantage over the other (60ft) wise, I'm willing to spend the extra $350 on option 2 if its going to hook better but if its equal performance than I'll just save the money,

If the 275/40/17 setup is lighter I'd go that route. Also unless you are making significantly more power than stock (ie N20 or a header/exhaust combo) and if the temps are above 60 you won't need a drag setup.
