Same here, as soon as idle drops a bit from the initial start and JoeZ exhaust stops rattling, its a go for me!

I usually sit for 10-15 seconds then cruise at 30mph or so out of the neighborhood. Car stays under 2,500 RPMs until oil indicator is at 2 notches.

I wait for the idle to settle below 1,000, usually about 3 or 4 minutes. Then drive judiciously as much as possible, until at least 2 bars on oil temp.

Idling is one of the worst things you can do to an engine. If you look in your owner's manual, it will tell you to use the severe duty maintenance schedule if your car idles for extended periods. It wears out the cam chains much faster than if you just drive the car. Really.

I've always read that newer cars don't need to be warmed up at idle before taking off...obviously, you just cant hop in the car and romp on the throttle. I just fire her up, wait for about a minute or less and take off slowly. I also have about 2 miles of driving under 30 mph before I get on the high way.

I usually let the car idle for about a minute before i take off and then drive easy until my engine and oil temps are up to operating temps

Correct me if im wrong but i believe warming up a car came from the days when cars ran on carbs

I sit in the car for a few seconds after I start it up until the RPMs drop. You can hear it start loudly and after a few seconds it will get quieter when the RPMs drop and then I start driving.

I redline the car right when I cold start it then I do a burnout of my driveway and start drifting sideways back and forth until I hit the first stoplight. After that I rev my engine trying to get the person lined up next to me at the stoplight to race me and then I gun it until arrive at my destination, running stop lights.. going over sidwalks.. hitting any morning joggers and bicyclists that get in the way.

After I get to my destination if my brakes and engine isn't steaming then it's not warmed up enough and I make sure I do the same thing heading back home.

This is how I do it everyday.
