For those of you doing extremely short trips and have less than 3K-5K miles in one year or more, I may do the same by just changing the oil out by time instead of distance if there's decent fuel dilution. From what I've gathered over the years is Blackstone Labs doesn't accurately measure fuel dilution so I'm going to use someone else (previously used them for my prior vehicles). I drive maybe 1-3 miles at any given time since work is so close to me and not much places to drive distance wise on Oahu (Hawaii). Every now and then I take it on the highway for about 30 minutes but even then I'm not even sure if I'm doing a good deed on this engine/oil by doing that? Back when I was in Texas I didn't drive as much either but I was still able to manage at least 3K miles within 6-8 months.
I think you have it down pretty good. Yes, driving for a good 30 minutes every once in a while definitely helps, burns off fuel and moisture.
Second UOA @ 128,249 miles. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (SN, not SP) with 3x RLI Booster Paks (85901). Fuel dilution on par with QSUD, slightly less viscosity breakdown.
Dealing with Tribologik continues to be a challenge, this time TBN was not tested.
Hmm...maybe I should send a sample next oil change to Tribologik🤔......how much do they charge and how do you get their kit?
Thx
This iteration cost ~$93 per sample. Tribologik is oriented toward fleet clients, not hobby mechanic types like me/us. I went with them because they are ISO certified and do FTIR for accurate FD values.
My primary challenge with them has been knowing what to ask for. Correlating their web portal test codes to test reports has proven difficult, and I ended up sending them @lobuxracer 's PDF as an example of what I wanted. They do retain samples for a while (AMHIK) so I am optimistic that the missing TBN tests can be completed even though missing above.
If you elect to go with them, I recommend you call Linda at (312) 800-2888 ext 203 to get started. She gets stuff done. She will need a credit card authorization form (PDF) to create a billable account. Linda can send you sample containers or you can just use a Blackstone kit (that is what I did) or a 3-4oz Nalgene.
Here's the latest. Finally seeing iron numbers where I hoped they would go after switching to RLI. The GS F is still at 4ppm, but coming down to 7 from 14 is pretty amazing.
New timing chains and related tensioners/slippers going in at the end of the month. Looking forward to having no startup noises soon.
👍I looking forward to what you find when you put in the new timing chains and tensioners with the old ones being able to be inspected for wear and tear and for other owners what to look for if so.
Good to finally hear that your Iron numbers have went down using RLI. I'm going with RLI next oil change and see if it quiets down the startup timing chain noise at least to buy me some time🤞
I know it worked for you, but for how long would you say that Renewable Lubricants worked to silence the oil pressure issue (you assume possibly...) /timing chain slap? In another thread related to the timing chain tensioner noise you said it came back after being gone for a while.

Lance,
Why are the samples dated:
- 2/18/21
- 10/28/21
- 5/14/22
So high in Calcium and then starting with the next sample 11/27/22 the Calcium started to come down to 1403 and subsequently went down further with your more recent samples? Your mileage seems to be about the same duration during these samples as well?
Was watching a video on LSPI and they found a correlation between high levels of Calcium and LSPI. Although this is more common with D.I. fueling only and don't know if the dual injection strategy with D4-S mitigates LSPI?
The new formulations that are API SP have lower level of Calcium to prevent LSPI.....thoughts?

Oil companies are always changing their additive packages. Probably for exactly the reason you stated. I never pay a lot of attention to calcium. I'm most concerned about iron and nickel.
Yea I bet the lower Calcium levels are indeed due to the change in the industry as other oil companies went with to mitigate LSPI to the API SP guidelines....That's my guess anyway, even though Renewable doesn't say they have the API certs (which probably cost a ton of money to have the API certifications) the change in the formulation based on your samples makes me think so.
This is my first oil report. Been running Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 the entire time I've owned this car. My OCI is typically between 2000 - 3000 miles.
Iron on that report isn't bad at all. I've been seeing a drop since I switched to RLI, but extrapolating your results puts it on par with Mobil 1 and typical street driving.

As a reference your Centistoke Viscosity @ 100C = 9.5 is very thin for a 30W oil @ your oil sample run of 2,354 miles
Every chart that I checked shows the range @ xW-30 = 9.3 - 12.4 cSt..........I don't know why Blackstone shows universal values @ 9.1 - 11.3
Just keep an eye on that oil because you didn't run it very long and it was bordering close to a thick 20W on the cSt scale
Like Lobux said your Iron levels though are pretty good!
