for those of you who find the shiny navigation screen trim piece annoying , read on.
since day one, i had always been bothered by the shiny trim around the navigation screen. when the sun is just at the right angles, the glare from the trim piece made my screen next to impossible to read. i checked out a few other cars and usually they have flat black or at most semigloss black trim around navigation screens. i scraped off the shiny silver color and painted it flat black. the texture is a bit rough, probably too rough for a luxury car, but the ease of reading the screen is 10x better and completely eliminate the glare at the periphery of my visual field. it took me almost an hour to prep / mask and another hour for 4 coats of paint. total cost was no more than $ 20. it came out nice and to someone who has never seen the ISF screen, it looks perfectly OEM.
i noticed the '10 navigation has lost the shiny trim and replaced with traditional black trim. apparently Lexus has found it to be a problem too.
for those of you who feel the same way, i suggest getting it painted.
i didn't. i looked into that option, but probably not possibly unless the whole unit is disassembled.
i had to mask everything very carefully, that's why prep alone took almost an hour. most of the navigation buttons have large gaps around them, so it was easy to insert part of the masking tape into the gap to ensure good coverage of all the buttons.
That doesn't sound like easy way for a noob not familiar with painting. If you messed it up you're screwed. Replacing the messed up paint job could cost you $$$$$.
