wat do u guys do when winter comes and it starts snowing. the dealer that i was gonna get the car from said the car can't be drivin on snow. it this true? can't i just slap on some snow wheels and tires and drive around or do i have to get a beater to drive in the snow? advice and opinions are appreciated. this will help me decide on if i should get the car or not. i mostly drive 10 miles a day and that is goin and coming back from work.

 

There are probably better choices for a winter vehicle. However, there are many owner's from Canada and the Northern US on these forums. Some of them choose to store there F during the winter, others use them with winter wheels and tires. I'm sure some of them will be joining this thread.

That being said....I don't think I've seen anyone on this forum that encounters more snow than I do and I'd have to say that the car is remarkable for what it is in the winter. There were only a couple blizzards this year that made me decide to take the SUV and leave the F at home. It's my daily driver and didn't let me down at all during the winter.

I am in Massachusetts and have no intention of running the F in the winter other than taking it out for a day or two here and there when the weather and roads are clear.

I bought an 02 4x4 Blazer for the winter and for the utility.

 

I bought mine in early March and took delivery with winters on. So I have not had any real snow, just an inch or so to contend with. Most major roads are cleaned up pretty quick. So except for the blizzards, I should be fine with it. It is a car to be used....I am not one of those baby this car, keep it dry and in a garage kinda guy. Use it!

 

I used mine when it Snowed here in Atlanta, no problems.... But we don't have real snow... its really just slush...

 

I'm from RI/MA area and have driven my car through pretty deep snow in the IS-F. Normally I wouldn't drive the F in the snow, however sometimes you can't help it around here and get caught up in a storm. I put a set of Blizzak LM-25's on the car and had no problems whatsoever. I never got stuck in the IS-F. If you put snow tires on, just drive with your head. You're not going to keep traction if you act stupid and try to accelerate very hard in snow. I'm one of the IS-F drivers who actually has driven this car throughout this past winter. I wish I could be lucky and be further south where it doesn't snow, but you have to deal with it. Below is a picture with my snow tire mounted. Those are 19". Performance wise, the LM25's were excellent for a snow tire. Drives well and handles corners pretty good considering it's a snow tires.

thanks for all the comments and suggestions. i dont know when or if i will get the IS F but if i do i will be confident about drivin in the snow. i have an AWD IS 250 so it might take awhile to get use to the speed. the winter wasn't that bad in jersey as i have not yet put on any snow tires (still sitting in my garage) on my AWD. i drove around in my stock dunlops then my falken. with this car i will definitely put snow tires and wheels on when winter comes.

 

Where in NJ are you from? I'm actually in the Princeton area on business.

 

What's really fun, even with snow tires it to turn all the electronic nannies off and then floor it. The car does instant 360's. It was kind of scary for a moment when my cars started heading towards a wall...

 

I drove my F in light snow, ice and everything else this past winter on the stock Bridgestone tires. No issues, just take it easy with the happy pedal.
