Default 2 Post or 4 Post Lift

We will be building a new house beginning next month. I will have a 4 car garage and intend to install a lift in one bay.

Do any of you have experience with two post lifts with unequal length arms? The easiest would be a 4 post lift with drive on ramps, but it is more difficult to work on wheel related items (you need a special jack.

Please give me your opinions of the two types of lifts - the benefits and problems with each kind.

Thanks,

Pat

I would do twin post for 2 things: 1) Space saving, not bulky and 2) You can work on your wheels and suspension with no problems.

4 post is nice, as you can double your vehicle storage in one spot. For versatility, Twin post is the way to go.

I agree with Ryan here. If you are not looking to store another car under it then go with the 2 post. Man you need to move to Chicago so I can borrow your garage

Two post. They can be used for secondary storage as long as you have enough height. Any lift meeting these specs will be great. I personally like Mohawk. Avoid the urge to buy cheap Chinese made lifts if you plan to use the lift much at all.

^^ Great picture of my dream garage...

Side question
Is the garage door on a Higher / Longer rolling track system or on something else..?

** 2 post would be my choice for all the DIY service and installs. **

Thanks

Joe,
Yes, you do have to purchase a kit for the door that increases the lift by 3 feet and makes the door hug the ceiling.

Luckly my garage is going to be 2 wide by 2 deep so I will be able to put the lift in one of the rear slots. That way the garage door will not be a problem. I will probably make the ceiling height either 11 or 12' so that I will have plenty of headroom.

I would do a two post so you can easily do suspension and wheel work. If it was just going to be a storage spot for a 5th vehicle then I would say a four Post pics if you don't mind once you get it done

Will do, Big Mike. It will probably be 8-9 months. We have bought the lot and are now negotiating with the builder. Should sign contract later this month. House will probably take about 8-9 months to build.
