Engine Oil Level
I hope this is not a totally stupid question but here goes. I checked my engine oil level cold and it indicated approximately 1/2 Qt. low. I checked it after the engine was fully warmed up and it was perfect. My question is, do any of you know if the correct reading is cold or warm? I know the capacity is 10 quarts and I do not want to over fill or run to low, but with having that much oil, temperature will make a difference in the level.
Thanks

Cold. When it's warm, some residual oil is still clinging to various parts in the engine. All of it has not yet dripped down into the pan. Your readings are the reverse of what I would expect to see. Was your car on level ground on both occasions?

It is a lot, but it's true....The price we pay for such a good engine.....
HBlexus07.....I would expect that the cold level would be higher than the warm or hot level.
Check it again, you have the readings reversed.....
Down a half quart wouldn't matter at all, but I hate going over the full mark.
Enjoy the new ride...She's a beauty....
