all these numbers are meaningless. You have to compare apples to apples. Prices vary based on

1. Coverage
2. Age
3. Location
4. Usage

I know in Louisiana there is more insurance scams so car insurance rates are through the roof. Not because of the ISF but because of Location. If you have 250/500 coverage it will be more costly than 10/20. If you have a $100 deductible it will be more than if you have a $1000 deductible. USAA is a Military insurance so not everyone qualifies but you get siginificant discounts. Also driving record plays a factor. Married/Single etc....

Default IS F Insurance

Hey guys I am currently looking to buy an ISF, and i was wondering if you guys can give me some advice for auto insurance. I am 24 turning 25 next month never had insurance under my name but had a good driving record since 16 and i was quoted by gieco $2300 every six months i live in New York. Is it true that when you turn 25 the rate drops because you are not considered high risk?

That's an insane rate, I am also in the market for an IS-F... I'm 23 and did a quote with my agent @ Liberty Mutual and it's $1300 a year for my own insurance. That may be because I'm getting a loyalty discount since my car, parents' cars, and house are all insured by Liberty Mutual. But yes, the rate does drop when you hit 25.

The rate is dependent on where you live as well... I have a few friends in Long Island that pay ridiculous rates for their car insurance. The only thing I can say is try Progressive and Allstate. I've heard State Farm is expensive.

I've heard of that magical age of 25 where one's rate really drops off. At age 25, most should have about 7-10 years of driving experience, including the permit. But $2300 for six months is quite excessive. Shop around and check out other insurance companies. It's really good that you're considering the insurance aspect of purchasing a car. I've had a few students who've disregarded that part, thinking they can purchase a really nice car when they don't budget for insurance as well. Hope you find the F you're looking for! Any particular color you're searching for?

thats a myth. my insurance rate usually lowers by like 50-100 every year as i get older and car gets older so it gets cheaper. when i turned 25 there was no larger drop than any other year.

I don't know if its because you live in NY but I would seriously shop around. Find an insurance broker to find you a good deal. Mines 1400 a year for a 500K policy with glass and rental I have it listed as my daily driver and I have an 8 point drag racing ticket. I'm sure you could do much better than what they quoted you.

My LFA insurance is less than that...

For the IS F, insurance is less than $600/6mos although I am above 25. Living in NYC probably doesn't help matters, and may also depend on where/how the vehicle is parked.

Wow, I'm surprised with your insurance rate.
I used to have America Family for my IS350, and was paying $1800 for six months. Then I was expecting to pay more for the IS-F, but I got quoted from Geico for $1100 for six months. and I'm only 22 years old. (23 in summer)
So, I have no idea how you're got quoted with that price. that just doesn't make sense.

$2300 is quite high, definitely shop around. Maybe wait until you're 25 and then get quotes from a few insurance companies.

I just dumped Geico like a bad habit for the same reason! I was paying 1300 every 6 months for 4 cars that get less than 5k a year put on them. I went with a local "independant" agent (meaning they sell more than one brand of insurance, that part is VERY important, if they sell ONLY Allstate or Geico, or State Farm, they work for that company!, What you want is an insurance broker, they will run you and your vehicles through their magic insurance computer and give you the best company for the price!)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZTk7...eature=related
My rates went down to $500.00 every 6 months with my current company which is Travelers Insurance. My coverages are all 500k minimum. You may not need to go that high with your age, but for those of us whom are a little more seasoned, it is not worth the risk of low coverage to save a few bucks. Hope this helps.

Living in a big city is not the issue... it's living in a good vs. bad neighborhood. Two things that will effect your insurance rate: a) your driving record, b) the crime level in your hood. Age doesn't come into effect until you're over 30, not 25.

That being said, I have a clean record (no tickets/accidents since May 2010), 26 years old, and my quote with Allstate is $632 for 6-months. I'm even paying a premium for "accident forgiveness" and reducing my deductibles every year I have a clean record, so it can actually be even cheaper. FYI I don't live in the best neighborhoods hence my 5901 viper system with tilt sensor and backup battery, lol.

Btw, with one ticket on my record when I was driving the IS300, my insurance was about what I pay now for the F. Good luck and keep shopping around.

$2,300 is retarded, and I would tell that agent that too. I'm in line with most everyone else on here. I have a full umbrella package, and I'm paying $110 monthly (so, $660 every 6 months). I've only received one speeding ticket in the past few years (did not go on my record), and I am accident free. You should be able to find MUCH, MUCH cheaper insurance.

Like everyone else said and what I did, get a broker that sells multiple companies. That will get you the best deal. I believe my agent went thru Liberty Mutual.

$30 a month more isn't that bad an increase. Which insurance company do you have?
