LSD or not?
Sorry for stating new thread, but I am now copletely lost. Does IS-F has LSD (limited slip differencial) or not? Read lot's of reviews that in some it says that it has e-diff, in some it says it is loose, in some even some kind of ABS controled LSD...
in some resend thread about "..what does sport button do..." someone posted a link to a technician file where one of comented notes (4*) says "blinks when LSD works" or simular...
please, anyone, tell me if there is an LSD so what kind of? electronic? mechanical? or whatever that is ABS controled? or is it loose?

I asked the same question and all I got were guesses. I don't think it has a real LSD and that is one reason I won't be buying one. I don't care if I could buy it aftermarket and have it installed. For $60k and supposed to compete with an M3, it BETTER have one....GTR for me.
it would be best if anyone that already has an IS-F would check it, or would state some real info.
easiest way to find out if it has machanical LSD is to lift car and spin one of rear wheels. If the other rear wheels spins in same direction as the one u are spinning it means it has lsd, if not, it doesn't...

It definitely has some form of lsd. If it is anything like the is350's.. then it's electronic. Hopefully a lexus tech can shed some light on this for the 'F'.
But looking at those youtube vids, the 'F' is good enough to go drifting in.

350 has electronic?? are u sure? I thought its torsen mechanical LSD...
Quoted from the Lexus web site.
" VDIM also provides an electronically controlled brake-based limited-slip differential effect on the rear wheels. During cornering, VDIM suppresses any tendency for the inside wheel to spin, transmitting more power to the outside wheel to maintain traction and momentum. Overall, VDIM enhances handling performance by helping to control front and rear wheel slip. When braking on a mixed-friction surface, VDIM will direct steering assist in the direction that will help provide the greatest control."
So, I would say no, it does not have a true LSD.

It has the exact same methodology as the IS350. There are conical washers in the differential (they call them pre-torque washers) that preload the pinion gears and act like a very weak LSD - pretty much like a very loose Phantom Grip. VDIM uses the rear brakes to invoke LSD functionality electronically as described above.
It does not have a true LSD - not Torsen, not Quaife, not clutch type - no mechanical LSD.
