I know that most of us heard about a potential lightweight version of the IS-F, called the IS-F/R. Rumor has it (based on AutoBlog) that they plan on a 12 horsepower boost (not significant to turn heads), but a 220 lbs reduction in overall weight is what caught my eye. Can't wait to get more info on this car!
If this is a repost, I appologize.

... and rumored to cost 11mil Yen, or US$100k!

I wonder where the 220lbs in savings comes from. Very substantial.

Wow. Some pretty nasty comments about the car at the bottom of the article.

Haha, I like the guy who complained Lexus is charging for "removing mass" and "adding a bit of hp". Apparently, Ferrari sucks for making the Scuderia too.

wow nice!

weight savings eh?

Well.. here some for starters

- Carbon ceramic brakes
- CF hood/roof/bootlid
- No nav/ML/bluetooth/backup camera
- space saver temporary spare
- Maybe, just maybe manually-operated Recaro (or Sparco) racing front seats? Or maybe they'll make their own Magnesium or CF front seat frame
- No moonroof
- Thinner rear seat padding and hollow headrests
- Mesh gearshift cover
- Aluminium suspension bits
- An even lighter set of alloys (might be part of the huge price hike)
- Thinner carpeting

Think that's enough?

Here's the source of the rumor, forwarded from someone who just went to Japan:

Weight: 100kg lighter
Horsepower: 435ps
Torque: 52kg-m
Price target: 10M yen

Oh sure, I know that there's plenty of stuff they can do in weight saving, especially since it's a luxury car with all the amenities. I was just wondering what specifically they're going to take out. I'm not as keen on luxury car manufacturers taking out luxury elements in order to save weight.

I totally agree, but what I don't get is why are they always bashing this car. Associating it with a Camry (which by the way is one of the most reliable, cars in car history) and making baseless remarks. The IS has the largest company on earth behind it. What they can pour into their design budget for this car alone can far exceed other companies entire line up of cars out there. I know this is off topic, but what is it that makes people so effin' biased about it?

It will still weigh more than a Corvette and it won't even have the most basic of options. Nobody will buy it for $100K. They need to give it more than 12 more hp to even come close to being competitive at that price point.

I hope people are not getting the $100k figure from direct conversion of the Yen!

Because it doesn't work like that in real life! There are other variables involved so, you can't just make a straight conversion. If anything, the price for this will be nowhere close to $100k. Do you really think that if the IS-F is gonna start around upper $50s than this will go at $100k based on the changes???

from what ive seen there's no news here. someone started a rumor. its carried over onto another site. then the majors pick it up from them. its not an indication that its really happening. its just a rumor being REreported.

personally i dont believe the rumor anyway. but i know enough people want lexus to build raw sports cars so i guess people will discuss and believe what they want.

cant wait to see the rumors of the is coupe with v6 tt and awd.

speaking of which, where is the IS coupe...? lol
