Lexus 1st year releast track record?
Hey guys - everyone knows that Lexus has a great track record for reliability. But my question is this - typically I don't like to get the first model year of any given car, in order to allow the manufacturer a chance to iron out the kinks. For example, my latest car is an 03 Altima. I really liked the new body style of the Altimas when they came out in 02, but I waited a year & my current car has been great. One problem in 45k miles.
So! I'm wondering if I should do the same with the IS-F, or if Lexus typically doesn't have these issues. People pay a premium for the L on the front of the car, and in my mind that L represents luxury & reliability. Hopefully ponying up 60k for the first-year run on the IS-F wouldn't be a mistake in terms of getting a car that is questionable in the reliability department. Thoughts? Any history on this? How was the 2006 is350 in this department?

Quite honestly I don't think you should have a problem. Many of the electronics and the hardware has been around on the IS since 2006. Considering the things that are different- engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, etc- have been refined over a year now and I have to believe they will iron out everything on a car that is so important to them.
I'm the same way with you on not buying a first model year car, but I wouldn't hesitate on an IS-F.
