Yes, that's true (at least historically). JDM IS350 has 318PS(~314hp), which is 8 hp higher than that in US market.

^but on the flip side you get 8 speeds and supposedly good control over what gear youre in.... so you're net wtq should be continuously higher than if you had a 6speed manual.

I don't quite agree especially, if you look at the 6th - 8th gear in the Lexus are really overdrive gears (ratioed 1:1 or less) and the final drive is only 2.1 so really the acceleration gears are 1st - 5th.

Assuming this is true, I don't understand why people are saying that this is last in class... Isn't the E92 M3 supposed to have 414 hp?

Hmm.. I didn't see any links to the msnbc info & picture, here in the IS-F section..

Yes - the related written info has been splattered on different sites but I found this msnbc one interesting since it had a photo that I haven't seen yet..

Akio Toyoda, exective vice president of Toyota Motor Corp., stands by "Lexus IS F" at the Fuji Speedway Formula One racing course in Oyama, west of Tokyo, during its unveiling media event Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. The 7.66 million yen (US$67,000; euro 47,000) sportscar, which can hit speeds of 300 kph (186 mph), rolls out Dec. 25 in Japan, and in February or March in the U.S., Toyota said. I was surprised at first myself. 2.1 rear seems way too low.

However, according this blog, it is 2.1 rear end and 2.9 reverse (must be wrong):

This site says the other way around:
