Hello my car was hit while parked and it threw everything off, All was repaired except the hardtop. It is now at the dealership but insurance company claims it couldnt have been affected based on a front impact. It is obvious it was but they are fighting me on it as it is an expensive repair. It now rattles and there's a gap at the back by the rear window where it all meets. One side is tight and the other you can stick your whole top of finger in.
Anyone had this issue from an accident and although Ive taken pictures and videos I feel like im being stomped on and in tears over this. I love my car and miss it! I know my car was pristine before and Ive been without it now coming up on 7 months... Any one gone thru something like this and is there any documentation I can physically show them to prove the top can be affected by any impact.
Thankyou very much!
accident causing hardtop sensors to crush and fail.
hello kkel, my lexus is250c was just hit in the front driver wheel/fender/bumper, the day after i put the top down and it would not come back up. first time i have ever had the top fail on me after thousands of cycles and 193k miles there is very little support to the roof on our cars, the door jam does not go up to the roof for extra support. each roof panel has multiple sensors and motors inside of them, the roof flexing even a small amount a qtr of a inch or less will cause one or more of the 37 sensors or 15motors to easily break. i would show them how the smallest movement of the roof can pinch and crush the metal tab into the sensors, in the picture below is just one of many sensors that can be pinched from flex in the body. hope this helps. if you end up getting your issue fixed please post in the thread i created on all known issues/fixes for problems with is250c/350c convertible hardtop only. good luck
I will try to upload the pictures Thankyou! It is currently at Lexus dealership being fixed. The insurance company from FEDEX is fighting that part of the fix and still owes me for the remainder of the rental car but thankful to Lexus and you for this information.
