Just picked up this 2012 is250C from a local seller. Has 106k on it- loads of service records from the same local dealer I service my other Lexus Sedans at. I have a few questions/concerns that maybe y’all can help with.
navigation does not have a GPS signal. Couldn’t get the center console out today (where shift **** is) so I figured I would try again tomorrow. I would like to check to see if the Antenna is plugged into the back of the unit. I read that some airbag recall requires the head unit to be removed and most times techs forget to plug the antenna back in. If the antenna is plugged in.. then what? Any good threads on removing the unit.. i have been watching a dated YouTube video on how to for the sedan models.
car was missing the wind deflector- is this worth buying?
100k service was completed at dealer back in November of 2019- what’s next after this? Should I jump on this?
center consoled area on passenger side where the silver trim meats plastic area has some horrible gauges in it. Can this panel be replaced or does it require a whole new center console?
are the the headlights adaptive on this model? I had a is350 sedan back in the day and the headlights were adaptive and miss that feature lol
gauge cluster area shows outside temperature but is way off. Why? could this be?
car has been sitting for 3 months only started every few days. Anything I should be worried about?
Other then that I’m very pleased. I got a great deal IMO. Wheels are in bad shape not sure what I’ll do with them. Any suggestions?
I included a picture. Please ignore the polish I left on the hood before taking the picture lol.
ps- I currently have a 19 ES and this is just a summer car. Can’t wait to enjoy it once my tints dry!
Glad you clarified about the polish because it looked like you were attacked by angry birds! Congrats on your new purchase. Living in South Florida, my c is a winter car ;-). I had a 2012 and later traded it in for the 2015 of which did come with the deflector. I think it helps to keep my hat on while flying down the expressway but don't think it's worth the hundreds of $ Lexus charged--not sure they still sell it.
I've added the grom aftermarket Android to mine so I've been procrastinating taking it in for the airbag recall fearing they'll damage and/or forget to plug in my non-standard equipment--or even the standard equipment based on your experience. Hard to miss plugging everything in so perhaps it isn't seated properly on the back of the head unit. Getting that head unit out without damaging the dash is tricky but searching youtube helps.
I don't find the outside temp reading particularly accurate--now that I think about it, I'm not even sure the dash matches the temp I can pull up on the OBD reader.
And I'm not positive, but I think the 2012 c only had the auto-leveling headlight option--at least I don't remember seeing any option way back when I bought either of them.
My used IS C came without the wind deflector too. I drove it top down a few times like that, and the road noise was loud and my wife's hair blew all around - not good... so I bought a used deflector right here on the forum and a hardware kit from the local Lexus dealership. I can tell you that now with the top down and the deflector up my wife loves riding in the car, and we can hear one another without shouting even at highway speeds.
If you decide to get one, don't forget to fold it down before you put the top up.
There is an outside/ambient temperature sensor mounted in the lower left corner of the front bumper. It is part number 88790-22131 with a list price of $16.31.

As far as the car sitting and being started every few days, this is not really a problem. I would recommend changing the oil because the engine may not have been allowed to fully warm up.
This is an accessory well worth its purchase price. The ISC is my wife’s car and the wind deflector has never been out of the car, or even folded down, for the 7 years since I bought and installed it It is very easy to install, by the way. The convertible top goes up and down easily with no interference from the upright (unfolded) deflector, and my wife goes top down even in winter with the heater blasting away.
I personally do not like driving or even riding in the ISC. I am about a foot taller than my wife and my head sticks up into the airflow over the top of the windshield, making for an uncomfortable experience. Wife is down lower behind the windshield in her sheltered cocoon and loves the car.
After 7 years and about 45K miles the only costs have been regular oil changes, a set of new tires (pricey compared to the 5 other Lexi we have owned), and a battery at around the 6 year mark.
The wife has been eyeing Porsches, but the ISC has been so dependable I will hate to see it go. So, I’ll probably just find a niece to give it to. I’ve not had many cars in my life so problem free that I would do that.
The car has not been driven in 3 months since we are high risk folks staying home for the pandemic duration. We lost 4 family members so far, so to us it’s no hoax. Car is on a battery tender, as are all of our others.
Oh, re: the navigation system. I have never been impressed with the Lexus system, and more so since Toyota closed the cheats that would allow a passenger to operate it when the car is moving. We use our iPads or iPhones for navigation when needed. I also have a GMC truck, and find its navigation system much better than in either our current LX or ISC.
Congrats on the new ride !
Just changed my ambient sensor. It’s in the front grill. The easiest way I found, after a lot of messing around is:
1. You’ll see it in the lower grill, it’s got a clip (white) that clips into the support brace.
2. Remove the top cover with the dozen or so push pins. Carefully so you can reuse them.
3. Using a long screwdriver, through the lower grill, push the 2 tabs on the clip down so you can pop it out.
4. Lift it up and out by the wire. Connect the new one to the wire.
4. I had to remove the horn (one bolt) to reach down to insert the clip back into the brace.
Note the tab isn’t a round hole, it’s angled so just look at it when you put it back in.
Pretty quick job. I had to replace mine because my AC didn’t realize it was hot outside lol.
