Default Radio

Soo..I just bought a 2010 is350c. While driving with the top down listening to my ipod through the AUX outlet, the ipod turned off then the radio ejected the 2 CDs I had in and turned the radio on. Has this happened to anyone else? I was thinking it may have malfunctioned from the heat, but you would think they would account for that, so not sure what to do, no warranty. It has only happened the one time, so far.

If the sun was shining on the cluster then you are probably correct in assuming it was heat that caused that behavior. I haven’t had any CDs in for it to eject but I will have the radio switch from BT or USB to satellite when it gets hot. It was problematic enough that my incredibly ingenious wife created this heat shield we can place in the center vents to both shield and direct A/C onto the head unit.

Heat shield in place.

Automotive grade plastic, reflective material, two vent mounting cell phone holders, and gaffers tape.

We need to work on how the metal is fixed to the back as the gaffers tape has only lasted a season.

I’m impressed that you drive with the top down in the desert heat. It gets almost as hot here in the San Joaquin Valley in the summer and at that point I usually keep the top up and bask in the air conditioned comfort.

If I recall reading my car’s service history correctly, the head unit had previously been replaced (2010 model like the OP). Did Lexus make improvements to the head unit over the production run? You may have lucked out with 2014!
