I recently purchased a used 2011 IS250C. It came with what I believe to be the original two remotes. One of the remotes will open the trunk using the trunk button on the remote, you hear the beep and you hear the latch release and the trunk pops up a small fraction. When you push the trunk button on the other remote, noting happens at all, no beep, no latch noise, not popping up. I put a brand new battery in the remote that is not opening the trunk and it made no discernible difference. The remote that does not open the trunk, seems to work perfectly normal in every other way, locks and unlocks the doors and also memorizes driver position for seat and mirrors.
I have searched through these posts and there are a lot about trunks and remotes but I have not found one that talks about one remote opening the trunk and one remote not opening the trunk.
Any thoughts out there about what might be wrong with the one remote and how I might fix it?
I don't know if you have solved the problem by now, but that one keyfob has a problem. Since everything else works, there is a problem with the trunk unlock button. Maybe you can fix it by cleaning the keyfob, maybe not.
But to try to clean it, do this.
1) Start by opening the keyfob up like you did when you changed the battery, but leave the battery alone. See photo 1.
2) Pick out the small printed circuit board. Also remove the latex cup the printed circuit board mounts in. See photo 2. If there is dirt/stuff/crud in there, clean it out.
3) Press any of the 3 little white buttons that do work with your finger or a something like a pencil eraser. See photo 3.
Listen closely when you press the button. You should hear a click. Now press the trunk open button. If you don't hear a click, then the switch is bad and you will have to replace the keyfob. If you do hear a click, take the little printed circuit board over to your car and press the trunk unlock button . If the trunk unlocks - great. Reassemble the keyfob and try unlocking the trunk again. If the trunk still doesn't unlock, then then the switch is bad and you will have to replace the keyfob.
