Installing a dash cam I asked 250 Sea
I’m thinking of installing a Garmin mini two dash cam. I’m wondering is there power to the rearview mirror and can I get a dongle instead of running a wire to a USB port? Thanks! PS forgive the A I talk to text. I have Parkinson’s and typing is a pain.
Hi Bronsin,
I also use a two-channel dashcam in my car and considered tapping it through the rear view mirror as well. What I did instead was run the wire through the headliner of the passenger side of the vehicle (just tucking it in) and then running it inside the passenger side A-pillar all the way down to the fuse box on the passenger side. From there, I had a kit that lets me basically plug in the dash cam into two ports, one to power the dash cam when the vehicle turns on and the other to keep the battery charging even when the car is off (to have 24/7 dash cam). This way, the wire is completely hidden from view and the dash cam is very subtle to my passengers and in photos.
Hope this helps!

Does anyone know how to read the SD card in the factory Dash Cam? What sort of adapter do I need to attach it to a PC?
But right, the factory Dash Cam is garbage, but being able to read the SD card might make it usable.
