Default OEM Filter Replacement

I am looking to replace my OEM engine air filter with an aftermarket air filter since I am at ~15k miles.

Which brand would you recommend? I was looking at the Tom's. I would prefer a dry filter type and not oiled.

If I was sticking with the OE filter design, I would do just that, or I would go OEM (i.e., the same brand that makes the filters that bear the Lexus label).

I, on the other hand, am running an aFe Power dry filter and have been for about 9,000 miles. It's great! I will be washing it once I hit 10k miles on the filter. It's more expensive than a single-use filter, but you can supposedly reuse it indefinitely if you keep washing it. Plus, there is a slight increase in induction sound at high RPM, which is nice.

Personally, I use Wix Filters for all my filters. They make quality filters

I have used K & N filters for decades on my cars and bikes. They are cleanable and you just spray for K & N oil on it after it dries. They flow more air supposedly.

stay away from the oil filters by K&N. most popular options for this car is AFE dry filter or Tom's. Less restrictive than paper. never heard of wix, but if it works, then it works. I use AFE dry.

I have an AFE dry and TOMS. I love both.

I tried a TOM'S and to be brutally honest, I couldn't tell hardly any difference. If anything, the induction noise lowend was quieter and the topend was the slighest bit louder. No detectable change in power.
Drove around for a week with it and then put the stock one back in, I prefer how it sounds.

That's not surprising for a drop-in filter.

No drop in filter is going to do any meaningful difference. Noise is not an indication of flow, though, so the TOMS being a less restrictive filter, would let the engine breathe better regardless of any sound change.

this goes for any not paper filter. AFE, Tom's and any other brand that does not use paper will let the car breathe better.

Which will still result in negligible power gains.

as much as you may be right, you wouldn't want your car to breath better? interesting

I do, and that's why I'm running the aFe filter. However, I'll be honest about the power gains - barely perceptible. I think my car has felt pretty much the same, power-wise, the entire time I've had it. The tires made the most difference in acceleration. 😁

right on...I'm with you. paper filters are very restrictive and whether there's minimal hp to gained, the fact that the engine can breathe better is most likely only going to lead to positive things. I believe that's the point that those who have done this mod believes as well. same with changing out the intake pipe to cf or ti...does it provide more hp? maybe or maybe not, but if the craftsmanship of the pipe provides a smother passage for air and provides "protection" from heat, the better the air into the engine. again, may be very minimal but still positive effect...and looks good aesthetically!
