Default Crazy oil prices

I'm getting ready to do an oil change and this makes no sense. How is a quart of Mobil 1 $10.83 but a 5 quart jug is $30.18? If I buy 5 single quarts it comes out to $54.15! I know the jugs are usually a little cheaper, but this is highway robbery! I just prefer the single quarts because I use 9 and it fills perfectly unlike trying to guess with two 5 quart jugs. 1st world problems I guess... .

I would say, buy one small one and put a mark on where the fill line is, and then just fill it 9 times

I think you're going somewhere with that idea... A better one is fill an empty 1 quart bottle from a 5 quart jug and that leaves me exactly 4 quarts. Then pour in a full 5 quart jug and then the 4 quart jug. Perfect!

It doesnt need to be perfectly accurate. Just buy 2 5qt jugs and leave some leftover in the 2nd jug, and you'll still be more accurate than most dealerships. You're overthinking it.

This.

In fact if you filled it with 10 quarts, you would be fine. Don't do that and I don't recommend it, but it wouldn't be devastating if you did it. Dealerships ALWAYS overfill. When I bought my 2019 IS300 it was almost 2 quarts overfilled from the dealer and that was on the 8AR engine. Buy the two 5 quart jugs, leave a bit of oil in one of the jugs and use it to top off until the next change interval, easy peasy.

I buy Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30, and it has little labels on the bottle to let me know how much is left. So if the dealership hands me back a 5-qt jug with a little less than 1 qt remaining, then I know they did a decent job putting the correct amount in (especially if I verify the level on the dip stick).

My main issue and post was about the huge price difference between the 5 quart jug and the 1 quart bottle when you do the math. Not really worried about the filling part, just kinda mentioned that. The jugs have markings on the side and it just comes down to me liking the 1 quart bottles but not at that price!

Even with the Pennzoil oil I buy, I see the same pattern of pricing. But, even if that wasn't the case, I'd much rather juggle two jugs than five.

The average engine probably takes around 6 qts. They probably set pricing to milk extra $ on the last qt from most people. We're just lucky we hit almost 10 qts, a nice round number.

Your option works too - Glad my idea spurred a solution. If you want some inspiration on what you can do with the remaining lube, PM me as I don't want to be banned (LMAO)

Luckily my Jeep uses the same weight and brand. As my Jeep is up in age (24 years) and miles 160k, i have to top it off every 4-5 months so thats where the extra oil will be going .

Oil prices are bananas. It also concerns me that the dealership goes back and forth between telling me that they put in either 9.3 or 9.7 or 10.0 on quarts into my car each different service.
