Default Dashcam without hardwire

Any of you guys using a dashcam without hardwiring like the Fitcamx on a 2023 model? Or has anyone opted for the Lexus dashcam and installed themselves?

I had FiTCAMX for both my BMW X1 and 718 Spyder. Performed flawlessly and very OEM like. Will be getting one for the IS500.

thanks for your recommendation. I just wasn't sure of it would be 100% compatible with 2023 models of the IS 350 because on Amazon it states "DOES NOT FIT 2023". But from my knowledge there aren't any changes in the rearview mirror or electronics from the 2021-2022 model so it should be just as compatible?

You can actually email FiTCAMX and they will tell you. IIRC, I was told it would fit.

I was considering the Fitcamx brand recently and saw the statement on Amazon as well. Went to their website, used the chat feature and sent pics of the mirror and trim. I think the Amazon ad is simply old, however, they said it would be best if I purchased from them. A direct purchase would ship from China and could take a while. I'm not very patient with things like that, so I passed on it and purchased the Lexus Integrated Cam. Installation took me about 25 minutes. I left town the next morning, so I haven't driven the car since. I bought mine on eBay from Bell Lexus of Scottsdale; instructions were printed and shipped with the camera. It was double the price of the Fitcamx ($350 vs $169), but I knew if I got a dud I could exchange it in a day.

I have a Fitcamx installed in my X3, so I would say installation is about the same for both.

The weird thing about the Lexus cam is it's installed on the passenger side. Probably doesn't have to be, but I used the mounting stencil they sent to get it installed. Looks like it would maybe obstruct the drivers view if on the left side. I hope I never need to hit the "Action" button. I may move it to the other side after I return home and see if it would block my view while driving.

Can you clarify what you mean by the Lexus cam is on the passenger side and "action" button? Is it not the same as the fitcamx being in the middle of the rearview mirror area? Or is there an extra feature or part that comes with the Lexus one?

do you have any pics? How was the install and fitment? Any issues with it interfering with any other features of the car?

At this point I really feel like you're overthinking this purchase...

The Fitcamx basically replaced the lower trim behind the mirror. It's mounted in the trim and adds a couple of inches to the current footprint. The Lexus Integrated Cam is mounted on either side of the current trim. It's not in the middle. Just google an image of the Lexus camera and you'll understand what I mean. The Fitcamx records in better quality and may be your best option. Neither has a display, which is what I wanted.

I can relate to the hesitation you have, but there aren't any differences in 22/23 models. Even if you buy it on Amazon and don't like the fitment, you can simply return it.

Check the below photo - you can see the Lexus Integrated Dashcam to the right of the mirror on the windshield.

I’ve been considering the Lexus cam as well. Can you describe the install process? What’s the wiring like? Have to do anything in the headliner? Thanks in advance for any information you can share!

If you follow the instructions provided by Lexus, you'll be directed to remove the visor hooks and the bases that are underneath inside the headliner. It's easier to do both sides. This allows you to have more room when tucking the wiring harness that's provided. You also have to remove the housing for the map light. I just let it hang down while I tucked the wires. Use a good trim removal tool and you'll be fine.

It all comes apart (and goes back together) fairly easy. The Fitcamx comes with new trim that has room to tuck their harness, so you don't need to do any tugging on the headliner.

As long as you handle the headliner with kid gloves, you shouldn't have any issues. They even provide a zip ties and few pieces of foam tape to wrap around the plugs so they don't rattle when they come in contact with other components.

I would give it a 2 out of 10 difficulty rating. My local Lexus dealer wanted $450 plus $300 to install this thing. It's definitely not an hour long job. One thing I would do differently....when you install the mounting bracket, make sure there are no bubbles on the other side. Go out and look at it. I didn't do that and from outside the car, it looks like it's not perfectly sealed against the windshield.

I failed to say earlier that with the I paid $350....the price included the harness that normally costs $40 at the parts counter. Fitcamx includes the harness in their bundle for $168...so it's a better deal overall. If their Amazon ad didn't say "DOES NOT FIT 2023", I would have purchased it without hesitation.

^^ I am still unsure what would be different from 2022 to 2023. I am just wondering if it's because they haven't tested on a 2023 MY and since they don't know much about cars and what could have changed (or not), they are playing it safe? To me, the Fitcamx would be the one I would go once I can get off my tushy and get one, whether for my Lexus or our Corolla
