True story: I bought my IS 500 after daily driving a 2017 C63S AMG for abiut 2 years. I loved the power and the sound, but I hated the ride quality and the maintenance costs. I got the IS about 6 months ago now, and have put about 6500 miles on it. Some days, I miss the immediate power of the turbocharged AMG. So I started spec'ing out a 2023 E63S since it will be the last year of V8's in that car. Yes, I could afford either car, but that is irrelevant. I went and sat in an E53 to get a feel for it. I realized WHY i got out of the Mercedes in the first place.
The IS is simple. All the main user functions are done with easily accessible buttons. The dash is clean and simple with a central real gauge cluster, not a long iPad. The V8 is muscular, loud, and rewarding. It takes some actual driving ability and conscious effort to bring out the vehicle's potential. And it daily drives like a Camry when you want it to. Do I really need "driving themes" with multicolor ambient interior lighting and a thousand menus to scroll through in an infotainment system? I've realized that no, I adore the straightforward "old" simplicity of the IS.
TL;DR the IS500 is staying with me because it's an incredibly well made vehicle that does everything you want it to do with elegant simplicity.
