Recently modified my factory center caps with a BBS decal by separating the two piece factory center cap. The outer Lexus logo is only held on via double sided tape and a little time and patience separates the two halves. Once separated you can actually remove the paint that makes up the logo. Do so carefully and then paint from the backside in a custom color of your choice and boom, custom color center caps with the chrome L retained.
You can just do the center and leave the perimeter black, or you could reverse it and just do the outside, or you could do the entire center cap minus the L. Note this was just a test of feasibility so didn't put 100% effort into a show finish here. Recommended method would be sanding the paint off. There are 3 total layers (black, chrome, then black again) and then polishing thr back again to remove any scratches from the sanding process. Center caps could then be easily reattached with 3M double-sided tape.
DO NOT USE ACETONE AS IT WILL CRACK THE PLASTIC AS SEEN BELOW.
Good to know !! Been looking at aftermarket wheels but wanted to keep a Lexus logo in the center cap, this approach might get me there.
Just be careful when separating them not to scratch the paint on the back side of the emblem or you may have to do some touch up. Good news is that even if you do scratch it a little bit, some gloss black touch up paint should get it back to functional without anyone ever noticing.
