Default Oil Filters?

My dealer said they would be good with me bringing my own oil and filter for oil changes. They would only charge me the $70.00 service fee. I will be going with the Pennzoil Oil 5W30, I saw mentioned in another thread. I did not see to much about the oil filter. I want to buy bulk if I can, maybe 6 at least. Any preferences on what filter you are using and why? The dealer said they charge 70.00 for the filter alone! Thank you in advance! I love this car!!

I used to use OEM, but have switched to Wix:

https://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/Ex...PartNo=57041XP

A Great filter IMHO.

BTW, if you are using Toyota Oil Filters - Use PN 001542-YZZA4 instead of 01542-51010. It's the same filter, but Recommended for Toyota trucks instead of Lexus, it's much cheaper. I used the YZZA4 before switching to Wix based on the above link.

I bring my own oil, but I don't bother bringing a filter because I am fine with the Toyota/Lexus Genuine filter. They charged me just $15 for the filter and gasket.

FWIW, I also brought Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 but probably going to switch to Ultra Platinum next time, as UP tests a lot better in most online tests I've seen. Both are most likely better than the OEM synthetic blend oil.

I've used the "Lexus V8" filter as Supra guys called it, the 90915-YZZD3 as it had more filter capacity than the tiny Supra OEM oil filter. I'm curious to check "YZZA4" one out for Supra duty.

Nevermind, I discovered it's a cartridge style filter like the IS 350, not the canister like the Supra.

that’s because it’s a bmw. Very little Toyota in that car.

i bought a 12 pack from a Lexus dealer online for $96. I perform all my own changes with Penzoil ultra platinum. It takes me no longer than 20 min. The plug and filter location are great on this car.

I'm pretty sure he has a Mk 4 Supra, which is very much a Toyota!

Hmm I might have to grab some filters in bulk then. That's a good amount of savings.

Correct, it's a real Toyota. We call the new "Mk 5" a Zupra to clear the confusion. The only Toyota in it are the logos and some "tuning".

This is what I use on my Supra. Once I looked up the other part numbers I realized they would not be an option. I get these things for about $3-$4 typically. They are cheap!

I really want to do my own as well so I don't have to drive an hour each way to get it done. I just don't have a place to keep the used oil 😕

I bought a 10 gallon container designed for diesel fuel to store mine in. Dump it at Oreily when it gets full.

OK, so, if I want an aftermarket intake installed, should I just let the intake be chef's choice instead of bringing my own? Tires, too?

Look, it is simply a bad analogy. Besides, on this car, there is a perfectly valid argument for bringing my own oil. Lexus still doesn't use full synthetic oil on cars with the 2UR-GSE engine, opting for a blend instead. In 2023, this practice is quite unusual and suboptimal. I'm going to use the best oil for my car's longevity, thank you very much.
