Default Performance dampers discussion

The Yamaha body damper is front and rear, so they screw up there on the press release

If it is front and rear, this would be the first time I've seen that information. Do you have a source?

Agreed…it’s only in the rear.

u can see the front one by looking straight down between the engine and the rad, you'll see it that looks something like this

and this guy shows it in the video comparing between ISF and IS500

OK so I did a little more digging. It turns out that many Lexus models do, in fact, have front and rear lateral performance dampers.

So, in the above video, I find it interesting that a GS is shown briefly with only the front performance damper but not the rear, unlike the RX shown. I suspect, therefore, that the IS probably already had the front performance damper seeing as how it has inherited the overall suspension setup from the GS. The rear, however, seems to be new. Lexus has repeatedly called it out as being new in press releases, and I've seen reviewers like Motoman and Alex on Autos make efforts to explain it in their videos.

Therefore, the performance damper shown in the video was indeed the front performance damper, and he did not show the rear performance damper.

Anyway, we're so far off topic.

they started doing that awhile back like when CT200h first came out and you can find the same idea on the 2005 Corolla XRS, sometimes they don't show the rear one cuz it's usually mounted behind the rear re-bar cover by the bumper cover

Yes, I saw those as well. But what I am saying is, all signs point to the IS not having a rear one before now. Or, perhaps the unit itself is new and different from what was on before. Something changed!

Engineers have also improved the IS chassis performance with the addition of a Yamaha® Rear Performance Damper. This damper reduces dynamic structural distortion, delivering increased comfort at low speeds, and additional stability and agility at high speeds.

I saw mine in the front when doing crank pulley. And rear one is there too. My 21 f sport rx350 had a rear one.

Not sure if you noticed the rest of this thread, but it is pretty clear that lateral performance dampers are also in use at the front of the IS. I think the rear damper is new, and that is what Lexus touts in their press releases and brochures.
