Default Fuel pump

Hi,

I have a LE #25, with 15k miles on it. No issues until today. I was driving with my 2 kids and had been driving for about 30 min and heading to get gas (said range 7 miles when the car died in the middle of the highway. I managed to get to the shoulder and then it wouldn’t start. I was a few hundred feet from the gas station so went and got 2 gallons of gas, thinking I just have run out even though it said I had range. Cranked, but wouldn’t start. Got towed to the dealer, who says it looks like the fuel pump needs to be replaced and it it isn’t under warranty as the car shouldn’t be run low on gas.

where does it say that?

I read one other post with a similar issue, but didn’t see how it was resolved. Anyone else has this issue?

Yes, the same thing happened with my 2020 GS F back in June, with roughly 5k miles on it.

It died on me on a main street, it would not stay running and I had to tow it to the dealer.

I had a rough time unfortunately as it took over a month for the fuel pump to come in, and when they finally installed it, either they used a bad pump spacer or screwed something up (or 'forgot' it) and I had to bring it back. They then told me the parts required were also backordered, and I then forced them to let me get the parts myself and bring it to them.

They did replace mine under warranty though. I don't think this has anything to do with your fuel level, and I had just filled up prior to this happening to me (with half tank still prior to that, nowhere near empty). Sorry to hear about yet another one!

I hope it's not related to the fuel level, but operating at levels that low is really pushing the envelope. It's pretty common knowledge to keep fuel levels above a quarter tank. 7 miles til empty gives reason to potentially deny a warranty claim. Hopefully, you didn't share the remaining range with the dealership.

If they are really trying to deny warranty for running it low, take it to another dealer or fight it. Every modern car can run till empty as there is always 2 -3 gallons of reserve before you are actually empty. Sounds like they just want you to come out of pocket

Fuel pump came in a week. Service tech said no problem - we replace fuel pumps like doing nails! All under warranty.
