Anyone running 17inch wheels with 235/40 tires. Curious what the fitment would look like. Currently running 18x8.5 with 245/40 and it looks and rides pretty good but wanted to change to 17 due to potholes.
If you're worried about potholes, you can go a lot taller. I'm running 225/55 front and 245/50 back with no issues. It looks a little old school, but the ride is smooth, and no worries about terrible roads.

My stock wheels were 225/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear. I assume you're running 17 inch wheels? Using online tire calculators, 225/55/17 and 255/45/17 would be 1.7 inches bigger in diameter than stock. Seems like that would throw off the speedometer by at least 5mph.
The factory tires on our '21 were a little taller at 26.4", so I only added an additional 0.3". We wanted more of a small luxury car and less sport, so moving to 17" wheels and taller all-season tires was an easy fix. It's not the look for most young guys, but we're old school and like a little more tire and a little less wheel. As far as the speedometer, most come from the factory reading higher than the actual speed, so the extra height of the tires actually made it more accurate. I also wanted to go with lightweight wheels and tires, which resulted in an overall loss of 60 pounds of unsprung weight; making a noticeable difference in ride and performance. The factory 20" wheels were beautiful, but just too heavy and damage-prone.
The factory tires on our '21 were a little taller at 27.4", so I only added an additional 1.2". Wheels look nice, what are they?
The 2021 has a larger wheel well which explains how you're able to fit 225/55 front and 245/50 back.
Our laws here prohibit us to modify to larger wheels, we can only stick to 17" if we need to pass the annual vehicle check, stock spec: 17", 7.5J ET45, tires: 225/45/17
may I know the best spec of RAYS wheels at 17" that would perfectly fit our 3IS??
As we are not allowed to make them look bigger, then I would prefer they to become more LIGHTWEIGHT.
My current wheels are RAYS CE28N 18", by law I have to downgrade them back to 17" from this year onwards...
