I believe for some specs / year models it was an option. Looking to current IS's, all of them it's an available option versus being standard. But you're definitely not alone
I also drive a 3is without the moon roof, the spec you are talking about is the fsport package 1 in canada for certain model years (14/15) I believe, the 2016's came with a moonroof on fsport package 1 but never came with a backup camera.
For the CDM market, the 2014 F Sport Series 1 trims came with a slick top. I have a IS350.
In 2015 it had a sunroof. Every other F Sport trim came with it until 2021/2022 when the F Sport Series 1 IS300 RWD and AWD came again with no sunroof. The 2022 IS500 F Sport Performance didn't come with it either.
Up here all we have are packages, no stand alone options....
It's weird how up here we can get F Sport trims packages on all drivetrains but can't get a sunroof on the IS300 RWD which no one probably buys and IS500 which should have it.
matt2gr - I have a 2022 IS 500 that doesn't come with a sunroof so if you need pics, let me know. At first, I was annoyed that it wasn't available but now that I have had the car for a few month now, I actually prefer without a sunroof. I still like the contrast of the sunroof (with the roof) but from a functionality, I prefer without the sunroof

Some people don't like a sunroof but for me, I like driving with my windows down a lot, I really like fresh air and a breeze. Even in winter time, I have it tilted up a lot, so I think it's personal preference. From a performance standpoint, I believe opt'ing out of a sunroof will decrease weight if you want to look at it like that. That's why the carbon fiber equipped Lexus vehicles (RC & other models) there is no sunroof offered period
^^ I agree that tilting the roof does help with drawing some fresh air into the cabin. I just tend to appreciate the greater headroom and just overall simplicity of the headliner
I have heard that statement of the lower weight because of teh no glass, and I know you are simply stating what many others have said but I am not sure how you view that statement but I think it is so negligible that I wouldn't make such a statement - I think it boils down to keeping the cost down IMO
Yeah my '21 has the option of sunroof not a standard. I rarely use it tbh, it's always so hot in South Florida. I do like the look of it though. And I wanted a sunroof just "incase" I do use it.
Maybe it's just me, but aside from the pics that folks posted here, I don't think I've ever seen an IS (at least 2014+) without a sunroof. Personally for me, I don't use the sunroof much so I'd rather not have that as an option.
Interesting to see that sunroof-less IS's do exist!
Here are a few pics of a sunroof-less IS (500) - Not the best pics but if you want more, please let me know - Ignore the fact that the wheels are different in some pics. I ended up swapping my Enkei wheels for the IS 350 OEM wheels as I preferred them on a white vehicle because the Enkei were just a bit too light for me, and that in Canada, our finish has a darker painted wheel that is gun finish
