Default Trail Braking

Hi -

2016 IS350 F-Sport

Trying to trail brake / left foot at Tail of the Dragon this past weekend, and computer would not let me accelerate while light pressure applied to brakes. I was in sport + mode with traction control off. Is there a way to override this throttle back of the engine by the computer ?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

Would the pedal dance work?

I've heard traction off (short press) allows for burnouts and such, but that doesn't help when you are already rolling haha.

No, nothing I tried worked. If brake pedal was applied, it would not let me accelerate. I think it is called the Brake Override function to prevent unintended acceleration, and I have checked the manual for a way to overide, but coming up empty...😡

A lot of folks use trail-braking to help gain better balance / control weight distribution through turns and achieve higher exit speeds from turns...but this car shuts down the throttle if brakes are being applied...😡

Just to be clear, are you talking about trail braking in the traditional sense, where the brakes are released gradually until the apex of a turn? In that case, I'd say you must be pressing the throttle too early or holding the brakes too long.

I think that, if you're intentionally doing this, I would call it "throttle-braking". Really the usefulness of this technique is to alter the effective brake bias of the vehicle... that is, because you are driving a rear-wheel-drive car, you are counteracting the braking friction with the power transferred to the rear wheels, creating a strong front bias to the brakes. To me, this sounds dangerous on a tight mountain road.
