Hey everyone, so long story short I went off a curb super high off the ground and didn’t realize that the car was stuck on an angle with the side rocker panels scraping the floor (it was on such a bad angle that my axle back pipes even got scratched a bit). I had to gas the car a bit to get off this ledge which is probably why the right side is ripped open.
In all honesty the damage isn’t noticeable unless you are looking underneath the car. The only reason I even realized the damage underneath was because I saw that my left rocker panel wasn’t flush and bending outwards.
Would this be worth going to a body shop to fix or replace? Any estimates on how much it would cost and lastly, would you go and fix it?
Thank you guys in advance for the support and advice!
The side rocker panel on the left driver side is slightly bent outwards. Underneath side rocker panel on right side of the car. Right side rocker panel Underneath left side rocker panel Left side Left side
Probably nobody but you will notice it unless they're buying it from you. So if I were going to keep it for, say ten years, then I would drive it for a few more years, then have it repaired when I got a new paint job.
New side skirt maybe $200-300ish (try to find a totaled one), paint $300-500 depending where, and then install itself would be another cost. Try to push it back in and use some duct tape on the under side where it's ripped and have it attempt to sit flush
Do you mean pushing the left side thats bent outwards? If so, I tried this already and it won't go back in place, pretty sure the skirt itself is bent.
I remember I put my jack stand in the wrong place and my side skirt popped out and then I was able to pop it back in. You're going to have to use a bit of force, or have someone push it in and then just take that part that's ripped. It's understood it's bent but just for a temporary repair, have it sit flush against the car would be better than it sticking out
Agreed, but i think the molding itself is bent here, you can't really just pop it back in i don't think. I mean i'll try with more force and see what happens but I'm pretty sure I pushed hard enough if the whole car is moving lol.
That side skirt is plastic, correct? I would remove the side skirt, get some high strength plastic epoxy, clamp things together to reshape the damaged area, do some touch-up painting below, and see if that works.
This kind of damage happens all the time to peoples cars. It’s really up to you whether you want to fix it or not. Just make sure there’s not scraped up bare metal so it doesn’t rust. Other than that, if you can’t tell it’s damaged by just walking up to the car I would probably just leave it.
