Default 2022 Key Fob Questions

Guys - Question..

Would anyone know if you can re-program a key fob from say a 2021-22 ES350 (Newer Key Fob)..

Also - Does anyone have issues with the distance in which you can lock/unlock the car. Anyway to maximize the distance? My last Jeep, and BMW the distance was great in which i could Lock/Unlock.

This is for a 2022 IS350 FSport.

Have you tried the ‘hold the fob up to the side of your head’ method? It greatly extends the range, no kidding, it works. I don’t use it with my IS, since I just grab the door handle to open it. But I can open the top on my convertible from across the parking lot by using the head method, otherwise I need to be within about 50 feet of it to work.

Gotta hold it to your skull, in the temple area or above your ear (or at least that what works best for me).

This is for a 2022 IS350 FSport.
I haven't tried it but to answer your question somewhat, you'd have to see if the ES key and the IS key communicate on the same frequency. There's a whole writeup on the Toyotanation forum that I read a while ago where someone took the Lexus card key and programmed it to a Toyota, but they had to do extensive research on the frequency of the keys to make sure he got the compatible key.

Do you have a case on your key? That could cause it to have a short range.

The fob range is published as '80 which is somewhat less than other brands I've tried.
The question of reprogramming a fob that already has been paired to another car is that
it is tough to do. Think of the purely mechanical keys we have all had, if it is cut to a profile
for one car it is unlikely to be suitable to cut for a different key cylinder. I once thought it
would be as easy as clearing and pairing a Bluetooth or WiFi connection but it is not.

Yeah, the Ford fobs were rated for something like over 200ft. I had to adjust to the limited range of the Lexus fobs when I got the IS. Initially I thought the fobs' batteries were low or something.

Question: What’s the need for a long range fob on your Lexus? Not much you can do that can’t wait until you get closer to the car. As far a locking goes, I’ve just sort of automatically hit the lock switch on the door as I open it, so it locks on closure, and that click from the gas lid confirms the car was locked.

repost:
If you lock a Lexus with a method that requires the fob:
Press the lock button on the fob or
Touch the outside door handle "dimple"
You are locking the car, setting the alarm, notifying the App that it's locked and folding the mirrors (if enabled)

If you lock a Lexus with a method that does Not require the fob...even if it is present:
Touching the inside door handle "lock' button or
Flipping the mechanical lock toggle
You are locking one or more of the doors, not setting the alarm, not notifying the App and not folding the mirrors.

Have to disagree with at least part of that.
Took my car (2014 IS350) to get a new battery today at a local auto parts place. Knew I’d need to open the hood later, so popped the hood lock, opened the door and hit the lock switch, and car locked when I closed the door (gas lid lock clicked).
Came back out of the store with the battery, and started to open the hood, without unlocking the car, setting off the alarm. (Don’t have an app or folding mirrors, so can’t comment on that.)
