The previous owner had the car repainted on the passenger door. I want to get it repainted since it is very noticeable. But I am worried after reading some comments that there is a yellowish hue for the repaint of the Ultra White.
I am not entirely sure if the door was re-painted in Ultra White and has that yellow hue. Or Pearl White, which I know has a more yellow tint.
I got an estimate for the re-paint but the shop put down Pearl White for the paint, even though I explicitly said it was Ultra White.
It bothers me enough to want to get it fixed, now debating on whether to just get a wrap done, or save half that money and just pull the bullet on the re-paint.
I have the same issue with my drivers door. Ultra White Paint is a 3 stage which is hard to match to OEM.
I got a quote for just the door it was around $600 but the concern was they would want to blend the paint on the entire drivers side which was $600 per panel =$2400.
I had a Maaco paint job 1.5 years ago from my rear quarter panel to front door because someone dented my front door and the rear clear coat was coming off. Because they didn't take the mirror stem off, the clear coat under the mirror, on the door, is coming off. They quoted the entire door to be painted at $250. Another shop which has almost 5 star rating asked $400.
You wrapping the car would be at least $2k-- I would just repaint. This car looks weird wrapped stock unless you drop it. The nardo grey would look really good, any other color looks off

my very first car was an 08 2IS in starfire pearl and was involved in a minor accident, damaging one of the rear quarter panels. i had the same problem with the local lexus-certified body shop upon picking the vehicle up - the panels didn't match. i refused to pick it up until it was matched and they indeed matched it perfectly, so it can def be done.

You think going with a lexus-certified shop would be the better route for this, since it seems like matching the OEM paint is a common issue?
Got a quote from a body shop near me with decent reviews. But the nearest Lexus Certified is about 30 miles away.
To get the color to match, blending is probably needed ( rear door/fender) and that will increase the cost. But it will get rid of the noticeable color difference.
he doesn't need to find a used door. a shop can match the paint by carefully blending into the surrounding panels. you can go with a lexus-certified shop or a really well-reputed shop, as long as they do quality work, you should be fine.
when picking up the vehicle, make sure go when it's light out and to look at it from multiple angles in both direct sun and in the shade.
Do you plan on doing it? And did the body shop understand the difficulty of matching to OEM?
Also what spring are you using?
No i didn't. I got a quote from a very reputable shop (they were removing the window trim hardware etc and replacing it with new). If you decide to go with it, find a reputable shop otherwise youll have different colors shining on different panels
Mine drivers door has a pink/red shade to it since the dealership where i bought my car from rushed in getting the car ready and they clearly mixed a bit more of red into the clear coat. Lesson learned - Paint meter is a wise investment since a bad Paint job will show in a few years.
I'm hoping someone side swipes my car honestly to get insurance to pay it for it LOL. I have rust building up from where rear quarter panel meet the rear bumper due to poor paint job from the body shop. So ideally, i really need the entire driver side repainted but $2400 is a lot for one side IMO. I would rather wrap the entire car for that cost.
White is one of those colors that is the hardest to match, especially since it is a 3 stage color. Without blending, a reputable shop should be able to get it to match at least 9/10. Don't worry too much about their notation of pearl white vs ultra white. They SHOULD be going based off your VIN then toning it down to match the car.
