What's up everyone. Has anyone noticed their headlights are peeling around the upper corners of the headlights?
Car isn't in covered parking, always under the sun throughout the day. Wash cycles are usually every 2 weeks(when brake dust in the front becomes unbearable) and dried using ceramic detail spray. Thought it was odd for the headlights to start peeling in 2.5 years of ownership.

Yep very common. My wife's 2015 CT200h has about 1" of peeling on the inside of the headlight in the upper corner of both headlights, and her car has been garaged every day for the past 3 years. I wish they would come out with a headlight plastic that never peels.

 

Strange, mines is from the outside lol. This is quite disappointing, you pay a premium and you get this subpar quality. I swear a normal Toyota/Honda is a bit better in this area.... Guess I'll have to keep an eye on it and be extra careful when I wash that area.

 

Show a picture then. Toyota/Honda headlights are not better. All headlights turn yellow.

 

A bit better as in when they start peeling/yellowing. Not saying they are superior but from experience they don't yellow out during the first 3-4 years. Well then again there's probably craters on my headlights since the IS does have things quite lower than most cars.

 

If you absolutely have to park in the sun then make sure you’re keeping your car and headlights waxed and sealed. If you’re not doing this then it only makes sense your plastics are yellowing.

 

This is a good kit with a great sealer lots here use on the CL Forum. Just about all car headlight are Plastic now. Its the Sun VU Rays that mostly yellow and cloud them.

 

Nice! Was looking for a good kit that will restore headlights, noticed my dad's car needed some restoration so I got the Meguair's kit and it's actually easy and simple to use. We will see how long that lasts before I have to purchase this alternative kit.

How easy is the installation and how long does this film generally last? Assuming location is a factor, I usually deduct 1-2 years for Hawaii.

Google some of the sites that either sell it or demonstrate its application for examples of difficulty. Making a fit out of a flat sheet is harder to apply, but cheaper. They also sell pre-cut sections that have all the dimensions already at size, so you just have to center everything. An important part is the fine sanding out of the existing discoloration which will take more time than the application.

I just had mine done by a pro where he did the whole job for $150. I don't like spending money, like most of us, but it also comes with a guarantee of ten years on yellowing or peeling.

Got it. Protecting something worth over $1000 for just a few hundred is quite worth it IMHO.
