I found that you need to be driving the car when you turn the LTA system off. Just sitting in your garage selecting options doesn't seem to work with this feature, and it will just revert to being on.

tried it while driving and steering wheel still vibrates and beeps at me.
I turned mine off via the multi-information display screen. There should be several options to turn on/off under the "Driving Support System Information Display" heading.
