Default Broken Gas Cap Cover?

Over the past few weeks I have come out to my car to find my gas cap cover popped open several times. I played around with it and it definitely doesn't latch closed while the car is unlocked. It just kinda sits/rattles and it takes no effort to open. I remember having to push it in to open. While the car is locked, the cover is also locked in place and doesn't move. However today I got out of my car(I always press the lock button on the door before I close the door) and when I closed the door and the car locked itself, my gas cap just popped open. This makes me believe that whatever mechanism is supposed to hold the cover in place is broken. Thinking I might have destroyed it with my aftermarket sub. Anyone else have this problem?

there’s a little latch that locks the door in place when you lock the car but the push pin is just meant to open the door, it’s just resting on it. Push it with your hand to reverse it and now when you lock it the latch will work since the door is aligned. The lock latch will close when you lock but if the door push pin is pushed open then the door will not align and push the door open. Doesn’t make sense the way I wrote it but hope that helps. happy new year!

edit: the gas door is a major bass rattle problem, put something to cushion the contact parts but nothing too thick or else the door will not align again and the latch won’t work. You can see the locking mechanism if you lock the car when keeping the gas door open and you will see the latch come out

cap pops open because the wire attached to the gas opener isn't properly placed. you have to tuck the wire in a COUNTERCLOCK wise (UNDER) the gas cap and then it won't pop open. I have gas station attendants who put the wire over the gas cap and mine pops open, you have to tuck it under the cap and it won't pop open
