Default 2016 Lexus IS Frameless Mirror retrofitt

Does anyone know if the mirrors for the 2017-2020 Lexus IS frame less rear view mirror fit the 2016s? Would it be plug n play? Looking to replace the bulkier one with the frame less as it looks much more clean. Thank you!

I haven't seen the 2017-2020 mirrors, but I know the RC-F/F-Sport mirrors are frameless and are plug and play. I just did this mod a couple of weeks ago. Got a unit off a totaled RC-F for $100.

P/Ns as follows if you are interested:
87810-0WM00: w/o HomeLink, w/o compass direction
87810-0WM10: w/ Homelink, w/o compass direction
87810-0WM20: w/ Homelink, w/ compass direction

I got the 87810-0WM10 since I don't need the compass direction and it looks a lot cleaner without that square IMO

Thanks for the reply, do you think the 2016-2019 Lexus RX rear view mirror would fit the 2016 Lexus IS as well?

I had actually tried an RX one first since that was the only one available at the time. The answer is no, the mirror will sit a lot lower than the IS/RC one and it will obstruct your view. Besides that, the connector is plug and play but the installation flange is slightly different and will look a bit out of place

I would not recommend it

Got it thank again! Another question my stock mirror doesn't come with the compass on the mirror since I have the navigation model, does it hurt to to get the one with compass by any chance? Would it integrate well with the GPS compass I have? Appreciate the help!

I don’t know for sure if the compass signal/wire would be available if not already equipped. If anything, I would assume the compass area would be blank if it doesn’t work. I would order the one without the compass just to be safe.

Just curious, why do you want the compass especially if you are nav equipped? In my opinion, the mirror looks a lot cleaner without the compass, which is why I wanted to upgrade in the first place

I see, I found this one on eBay, Would this one work? I thought it it was nice feature to have on the mirror, but you're right. It does look much cleaner w/o the compass on the mirror haha.

I can't say specifically for that mirror, but for compass mirrors I've added to other cars (including my old ES), the compass working were all within the mirror itself, no external input other than power. You drive slowly around in a circle to 'program it'.

I'd be surprised if this one wasn't plug and play. FWIW, the RC mirrors are even more "frameless"... you can see in the image in the link below that the mirror bezel covers the black frame outline. Subtle, but looks even cleaner if you want that look

That is good info! I would expect these mirrors to be the same.

Yes, the compass is powered and does not require wiring up, however be careful with the mirrors that are not documenting as fitting. When I did this mod, I initially bought a frameless mirror with the compass, because I actually preferred the compass given the choice. However, that mirror had a base that did not allow the cover to attach in order to hide the wiring, and the wiring did not feed inside the mount, leaving it outside and dangling. I did eventually get the RC frameless mirror (without compass) and it works perfect.

This pic is all I have left comparing, the top one is the frameless mirror that had issues, in comparison to the bottom original, notice the base and wire differences.

Thanks for the comparison, I found this one which came off a 2017 Lexus IS, would this one fit, it has no compass, but i'm not sure if the harness is different or the same.

No, that is the same one I bought (only with compass), you can tell which ones are ok by looking at the base. The wire should not be seperate like that, it should be inside of the base and have a cover attached on the outside. The one you are linking to has the wire on the outside of the base, so even if you were able to find a way to put the cover on, the wire would push the cover off being on the outside of the base, if that makes sense. It will however plug in and work, it will just look like garbage with the wire and its plug in plain view with no cover.

If you search, I believe I was the first one coast to coast to retrofit another Lexus mirror onto our cars, certainly the first LX570 mirror swap

Best of all the swap was cheap!

This one has a compass but no wire on the outside, would this be good to use?

Yes, that one should be good.
