Hello i am new to the forum. I will have a 2014 is350 f sport tomorrow!
I need new tires for the rear. The tires in the front are bridgestone potenza re970as and are almost new (8/32). Is it ok if i get brand new bridgestone potenza re980as for the rear since the re970as are discontinued?
Should i sell the front tires and get the same tires all around?
Sorry if the answer is somewhere in the forums, it is my first time using it!
Thanks for the answers!
Since the two models of tire are of the same category (Ultra High Performance All-Season), there isn't any issue having the 70's on the front and 80's on the rear.
I'd recommend an alignment once you install the rears.

@ Gabhc this is only my opinion, but if I was in your position I'd replace the rear tires with the NEXT Brand/Model of tires I want, for example Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ (that's what I replaced on my front wheels and still have the OEM Bridgestone on the rears), or whatever else. i.e. you don't necessarily HAVE to get Bridgestone. Front tires will wear out faster than rears so by that time you'll be ready for the next pair (i.e. NOT set). But, once again, this what I'd do, AND DID, but sure many would disagree!
Might be a good idea to also get a 4-wheel Alignment asap after installing the new tires. btw how bad are the rear tires?

Front tires will wear out sooner than the rears if you turn a lot and drive conservatively. My rears always wear out way faster than my fronts on my RWD cars because I accelerate hard often and I’m hardly ever driving around town and stuff. But I do agree he should ditch the stock Bridgestones as they are pretty lame. Way better tires out there than the stock tires.

Thanks for your reply!
I have not seen them, the dealership that inspected the car told me i had just about enough to last the summer if i flipped them to the other side. They also told me the car was not alligned properly so an alignment will be done right after the new tires!

In that case see if you can negotiate for new tires AND a 4-wheel Alignment in a few months - Quebec doesn't get too hot summers/roads anyway.
btw the dealer comp'd the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ mentioned above but had to pay pretty heaviliy for a 4-wheel Alignment.
PS >>> start looking for a completely new set of rims for winter tires - you don't wanna keep pulling new tires off their rims every 6-7 months.
Are the tires mentioned in the OP ~ Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS ~ stock?
Thought OEM tires on most IS are Bridgestone Turanza ER33, which agree, are pretty crappy, and 1st/2nd Gen GS also had those.
You’re confusing the stock summer tire model (ER33) with the stock A/S tire model. The colder states and Canada tend to come with the A/S Bridgestones.

@Flash5 The stock tires on the AWD cars are the Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02, not the RE980 A/S. The RE980 A/S is actually a decent tire, the Turanza is terrible. lol

Personally I’ve never had my front tires wear out quicker than the rears. I replace my rears once a year and my fronts every other year. This is my experience with michelin pilot sport 4s.

Gotcha! Yeah I wasn’t sure I was looking it up and couldn’t find which A/S from Bridgestone came on the IS stock. Mine came with the summers. Both stock tires are pretty bad haha.

Lazer is the only person I know whose front tires wear out faster tbh. If our cars were FWD it would make sense. Idk I guess driving habits have a lot to do with it.
