Default Ceratec

Does anyone have experience with adding Liqui Moly Ceratec to their turbo 4 cylinder engine oil? Online reviews seem very positive and the product seems to work very well in making the engine run smoother by reducing internal friction, but I’m hesitant. If any of you guys have used it, how has it worked?

I haven't used anything like it and not sure how common engine additives are these days.

But they don't seem neccessary. Why fix what isn't broken right? Engine already runs smooth, and its made by the top car manufacturer in the world right? So why bother.

We used to try these things or trans additives on super high milage cars which were dying as a last ditch effort to save $$$ on repairs or better yet buy some time before a new vehicle purchase.

Curious if people are still into additives. Kind of a love or hate thing ha.

Watched Project Farm's testing of this product, and he seemed to conclude it actually works in terms of reducing wear and friction. For me, I'd rather just get an oil that's already got an additive package that reduces wear and friction. Up to you though.

PF is an entertaining and mostly informative channel--been watching 4 or 5 years now.. but what you can't see in his channel are long-term effects and chemical reactions which can alter other properties of the oil. A lot of these add ons contain chemicals that jam oil control rings over time. Sure in a lab, they'll show amazing anti-wear properties in an instantaneous test.

Just don't add anything. No need to. Scientists and engineers have done all the work for you required for their products to perform optimally. I've been telling this line to guys for over a decade who want to add this and that to their "mOdOrz" ... No need. All you need to do is sit back, relax, slick that hair back, and enjoy the drive.

Guys wanna spend extra money so they can benefit the whirring machine they own. They want to feel proud and accomplished. They want the satisfaction of pouring a bottle into something instantly improving it. I get it. I'll admit it's fun pouring a bottle of something into something.

No need though. Large teams of engineers have done all the research and work for decades. No need to jerk! Just sit back and reap the benefits from their work. That's afterall part of what you're paying for when you buy a product such as a car.

Can't speak to anyone's intent but yes what you've said is very true and kind of my point above.

Totally agree. No need to. I admit I thought I was doing something good for the car when I put injector cleaner in it. Then I found out Top Tier fuel is generally going to do the same thing. But I admit, the "can't hurt" feeling got me. Having said that, it would seem Ceratec actually has a measurable effect on friction. Is it necessary? Will it have a noticeable effect on longevity? Eh, probably not. I don't plan on using it.
