Default Rear Tire Size Question

Does anyone know if I can replace the Rear tires to the 255/40R18 instead of the 255/35R18 on the stock F-Sports rims w/ stock springs without any issues on the latest gen IS?

Really want to know if it would rub or cause any issues if I were to replace it with the 40 height instead of the 35 on the rear on stock since I've been searching all over and can't seem to find a straight answer. If you run this setup or know someone who does, please let me know your feedback, thanks I would appreciate it.

Yes, if your IS isn’t awd you won’t have any issue running that tire. If it is awd, you will want to do the same to the front tires as well. If you are lowered though you will likely rub.

+1, you could do it as long as you're not AWD. If AWD, you would also want to up-size the front tires. You can't have the front and rear axles spinning at different speeds with AWD. If RWD you should not have to worry.

Yes mine is the RWD that's why it's staggered with the 255 width. The AWD ones doesn't come 255 stock will not be able to fit 255's on all 4.

Thanks guys for the info. I wonder why Lexus didn't match the 40 height just like the fronts if there wouldn't be any issues..

I run 255/45/18's rear and 225/50/18's front--no issues on a 2014 AWD. Be aware tho that different manufacturers size tires differently even tho they have the same numbers (.e., a 25/45/18 is different from brand to brand, even if by a small amount).

The staggered fitment wheels is part of the F Sport package, or if you get the option 18 inch wheels on the non-F Sport package.
Regardless if you have an AWD or RWD, the F Sport, and option 18 inch, package rims and tires are the same size, Front: 18x8 +45 225/40/18 and Rear: 18x8.5 +50 255/35/18.
The 40 height is the aspect ratio, which is the percentage of the width. On the front, the 40 in the tire size is 40% of 225mm (90mm), on the rear the 35 is 35% of 255mm (89.25mm).
Even though your vehicle is RWD, Lexus maintains the same circumference of the tire front and back by adjusting the aspect ratio...granted this is more critical on the AWD.
And if you did install two of the rear rims on the front, then you could have 255 all around.
