Default (Low Speed Bumps) Plastic knocking sound from Rear Right Door/Trunk side

Hi CL,

i recently started driving without music and started realizing when i drive pass bumps or uneven pavements in low speed (20 under, 25+ basically won't hear anything), i can hear some hollow knocking noise from the rear on the right, it sounds like the noise comes from inside of the door and the noise sounds just like if you have a water bottle in the compartment and it keeps hitting the door but I don't even have anything there.

I took it to the mechanics they lift the car and can't find any mechanical issue from the sway bar links, struct, spring, however he did mention he didn't undo any car interior panels to find if anything came loose. I also heard people here mention the roof rail but I don't think I have any noise coming from ceiling.

Does anybody have experience with this kind of noise? I can turn up the music a little bit (i am only on Vol. 5 anyway with ML) and it doesn't affect the ride, but we know we don't like that.

Thanks.

ive got some creeks n rattles to. In the winter i get one from the trunk because theres ice between the glass and trunk and it makes it sound like it’s coming from the headliner.

Apparently the gasket or something around the sunroof can go bad and cause a rattle. Not sure exactly what part it is but I’ve seen it mentioned multiple times on here.

Also have heard someone say they replaced something to do with the trunk, I think they said it was some rubber somewhere.

ive had neither problem but hopefully someone who has can chime in.

i got a noise kinda similar where i will hear it only during complete stop, then acceleration

sounds like if i left a ball in the trunk, it sounds like it moves from front to back

i figured its probably the tire iron or something but hopefully you can get ur issue fixed...i will post my results and hopefully it can help ur issue

question: that specific Door, when you look at the glass fully rolled up from the outside, can you see a LEXUS logo etched in the Glass? if it was vandalized and replaced with anything other than OEM Lexus glass which would be very pricey, it could be something back behind that Interior panel

lol@ball, mine would be a golf ball. And yes my glass is stock and never changed it, rolling up and down fine as well so i doubt, knock wood, anything wrong within.

I and several others had rattles which sounded like they were coming from the rear passenger area of the car (or the trunk). Ended up being the moonroof weather strip.

The last place I suspected the cause to be was the moonroof or anywhere near the headliner.

Try opening the moonroof and see if it persists. Want to really open it not tilt open.
If rattle still is there you should be able to cross that off the list at least as we all determined it only happened when glass was closed or in tilt position.

No I didnt not have a leak issue before replacing. At least not that I noticed, would have had to have been small as I did check and any would have been caught in the drain.

I sometimes hear this from the front shocks going over speed bumps at low speed.

i checked, it does wiggle a slightly little bit but 100% not enough to generate that level of noise that can mimic the sound that sounds like coming from the rear suspension.

Are they too tight from the factory?

Nobody thought that was a clear resolve just by inspecting the moonroof. It's a tricky one, not that obvious at all. Yet that resolved the rattle "in the rear suspension". I wasn't sold either until I tried it after reading threads here and on other model forums like the GS. Not saying this forsure your issue, but you sounds to me like you cant rule it out yet.
Edit: Thinking more about this I do recall myself and at least one other member could get some noise by using 2 hands and moving the moonroof back and forth while it was in the closed position. Not enough for it to be clear it was the cause of all that racket while driving, but a similar noise just by shaking/sliding it by hand.

I had just posted about this same issue last week! That rattle is driving me crazy, and it costing a lot of money on unnecessary repairs. I'm going to try to check the moon roof like suggested, but it does sound like the rattle on my car comes from the driver rear area.
