How I knew? Well basic, the module have a sticker which says LED module on it. Long story short this is a very bad design, and I’ll have to pay Lexus to get it fixed. I also checked the fuses but all are good. My thoughts are that they will need to take apart the lamp brake the seal between the housing and the front clear face, replace the bulb, seal it again etc etc etc. So Im expecting a $500 hit on this.
not trying to sound like a douche, but it’s very easy to differentiate between HIDs and LEDs. HIDs take a little while to fully warm up and LEDs are instant. I’m surprised you didn’t know which you had, but then again I’m a fanatic about automotive lights and stuff so I guess some people would never tell the difference.

To be honest not everyone knows how to differentiate, specially when is my first car with such light tech. I have changed bulbs before but the regular ones, not even HID.
Now, getting back to the issue, last night , after seeing some diagrams I made some connections between past events with that same headlight.
1. Headlight was replaced with a new OEM in 2017 due to a car accident that broke one corner of the clear face.
2. OEMs nor replacement headlights come with the LED computer modules. So those were transferred from the old headlight to the new one.
3. a couple of days ago driving through a very bad road that headlight blinked.

I’ll have to take out the bumper cover again and check with the left side module to see if it turns on. If the LED works im done, 100 are better than 600 anytime. If not well sad story for my pocket.

Yeah it’s unfortunate how much OEM headlights cost and that LED headlights you have to replace the entire headlight. I do enjoy the benefits of LED tech but damn it’s expensive.

Im getting ready to replace my headlights due to cracks letting moisture in. i just wanted to give you a heads up that each headlight requires 2 modules for a total of 4 between the two. also how was removing and reinstalling the bumper cover? pretty easy to get back on?

it is not difficult, I do recommend you to have an extra pair of hands so it can be grabbed correctly at both sides without damaging the attaching lips below and the sharp corners on the sides. Be patience when putting it back on, not always set on the first drop, it will eventually.

If you have a spare headlight to play with, the easiest way is to get an electric hot knife and cut them from the back to access the internals, then you have to seal / glue both parts together. Slow cook-off to melt the glue is not going to work on this headlights, theres a guy on youtube that tried and it didn’t work, so he bought the hot knife and did surgery on them. He wanted to paint the interiors thou.

Ok now I'm slightly paranoid lol. I spent way too long staring into LEDs yesterday and they all look blue to me. Not a blue hue like HIDs. Just a blue undertone. But, the longer I'd look at the same light the more white it looked. Also the closer it is, the more white. All the Toyota and Infinity LEDs are kind of blue to me. There may be an issue with my eyes....anyone else?!

What your car has varies based on country, model, package and specific options.

The HID bulb is a Toshiba D4S bulb, part number 90981-20024. The LED lights are not sold separately and require the replacement of the headlight assembly.
Did not know that. That's kind of unfortunate we can't just switch the bulb! Makes sense why they'd say it's dealer only now.

this is the route I'll be going most likely when needed. But then aftermarket options would hopefully grow by then. My car is 5 years old...how long do I have I wonder.

If you are still under the bumper to bumper warranty then yes. But definitely not covered under the power train warranty.

Oh geez ha.

I'm really going to start asking people around me to look and see if we're seeing the same thing. Since Flash5 has confirmed his eye sight is on par.

Here's Blue Oyster Cult's great song about the film. The film was made in 63, not in the fifties, like John Shirley's lyrics state in the song.

I would say yes except the bulb. But any stealership can always make up their own version of warranty.

Update: So i took the car to a local Lexus dealer and the headlight LED bulb turn out to be the faulty component. Being that said, they will replace the whole headlight assy. and it’s covered by warranty. They ordered it and Monday morning I’ll drop the car, they’ll give me a loaner to drive to work and I’ll be able to pick it up in the afternoon.
Although is very uncommon for LED lights to fail, that is my case. I must mention the treat was very profesional, they did everything by the book and even told me there was a slight leak of exhaust at the downpipe / cat back flange. On Feb I changed the OEM exhaust system for an aftermarket one and since mid Oct I started seen a black odorless water drop in my garage floor, after it drys is basically exhaust byproduct black dust so I was already aware of it. They’ll install a new gasket on Monday as well.
