Default Broken Axle

Hi,

I replaced my springs with my friend together. It seems like we broke the plastic rubber, and the grease in the axle start to come out. The dealership said I have to replace the whole axle instead of just the plastic part. Have anyone run into this problems before, or anyone has any clue where I can buy that part. I checked parts.lexus.com, no luck there. Any help would be really appreciated!!

Thank you!

Let's put it this way, if you could by the boot and clamps, which the note in the box at the bottom of the diagram says you can't, you would need to take the driveshaft out of the vehicle, and apart, to replace the boot.
To replace the entire driveshaft you would need to take the old one out of the vehicle..point being that either way the old driveshaft has to be removed from the vehicle.
The clamps also require a special tool to clamp them properly...which you would need to buy along with the boot kit, if you can get a boot kit.

My best suggestion is to look for a remanufactured driveshaft at a local supplier and just replace the entire thing.
In the long run it will be more cost effective providing you have all the necessary tools to remove the old driveshaft.
Also you'll need some diff. fluid as likely you will loose a little bit in the process...and a pump to get the diff. fluid into the diff.
If the vehicle is more than 2 years old, you may want to just change the diff. fluid while you're in there.

Would not have expected such detail and knowledgable instructions! Maybe I should consider get a new one as a better long term plan. Thank you so much!!

Buy a rebuilt / remanufactured half shaft axle. This will be way easier than replacing the boot on the existing axle. You can replace the boot on the existing axle, but it requires more time and effort. So it becomes a question of parts vs. labor.
