Default 2019 Lexus IS 300 needs new fuel pump??

Hi, I have 2019 Lexus IS 300 F sports, only 3 months old. Two weeks ago my car had engine light on with rumbling feeling but then next day light was off. Still took the car to the dealer and they said nothing wrong. One week ago, a week after that engine light appeared, my car suddenly had engine light with many other lights on, it completely stopped. Engine would start but no RPM. Was not drivable. Had to tow my car back to dealer again. And they said my car needs new fuel pump and head office ordered new part and had to wait part shipped to here from Japan. (How long would this take??) Service adviser said it may be bad fuel causing this problem. But.... really? this brand new car needs fuel pump change? I'm still waiting for one week and no news yet. I think this situation is very rare.... I will complain for sure. This is so crazy.

Sorry to hear about this. Is there any truth to the "bad fuel" claim by the dealer? Where do you typically get gas?

Or, the other possibility is that the car simply had a defective fuel pump. I've never heard of any other 3ISs having fuel pump issues.

I usually gas at Costco.. Service adviser told me he never saw this type of issue from new vehicle. I guess this is just defective fuel pump or something just like you said. And bad luck for me

I was even considering to swap the car because when vehicle stopped, I was TOTALLY freaked out. But I just love my IS so much! Hoping my car would get fixed asap. Should I complain to sales manager? I'm so sad and mad but I really don't know if it's worth it to complain......

I would suggest that once they replace the fuel pump, stop going to Costco. I never heard of an IS with a bad fuel pump.
The reality is you could get bad gas at any time from anywhere, but fueling at more reputable fuel stations will definitely help to avoid this.
The fact that the fuel pump has to come from Japan pretty much tells you that there is none in North America...because it's a part that no one orders, hence they don't stock it anywhere.

This is interesting. A 2019 GS owner just experienced the same issue. The dealer claimed a high rate of fuel pump failures on early-build 2019s. Your IS300 uses a detuned version of the GS350 engine (2GR-FKS). Perhaps it's the same pump and the same issue.

Good to know.
The thread spoke of a TSB, but no reference as to what it was exactly in the TSB, or a TSB number.
I don't believe there is a TSB in Canada yet, but that doesn't mean it can't exist in the US.
Given the symptom I would think this would go straight to a recall, rather than a TSB...if it really was a widespread issue.

I'm not sure what the problem with Costco is. I've been fueling up at Costco for over a year - not every tank, but maybe once a month. I've noticed no difference in Costco gas and Quiktrip (my usual go-to). It could be the specific Costco you visited.

I'd say it's more likely the issue JDR76 noted above.

The only fuel issue I have on my 2019 IS 300 F sport is the gas pump clicking saying it was full, when my tank was only half full. This maybe happened twice out of 9 fuel-ups, all at Costco as well, and when I left it on the automatic lock. Did a search online and it said just angle the thing sideways and this shouldn't be an issue. Weird though, my other car a 2014 Camry never had this issue.

That's what warranties are for. You didn't buy a 7-figure NASA rocketship. you bought a mass produced mass market good with thousands of parts made on large manufacturing lines. statistics says, no matter what you'll buy, failures will happen. you're just that statistic. get it repaired and you'll be fine. =)

Thank you!

This helps me to relieve. So some of early 2019 vehicles may have same issues. Very interesting..... hoping my car will be back home soon

Same issue here.
My newly purchased 2019 IS 300 has been taken to the dealer twice now for the same issue as you.
This second time the dealer has had my car for 5 days now. Technicians have replaced a part, but the issue is still not resolved.
We have 4 cars and take them all to Costco gas. The 300 is the only one with a problem like you have.
if they dont fix this problem or if it continues, we will tell Lexus to take their car back.
Good luck to you!

"Bad fuel" cause pump failure? That is a stupid explanation. The pump's job is to pump fluid. It's doesn't matter what fluid is being pump whether its fuel or water. Now if there is no fluid/fuel for it to pump, the pump can fail but not because of bad fuel. Bad fuel can cause other engine problem, but not fuel pump problem.
I always get my gas at Costco for all of my cars unless there is no Costco gas available when I need gas. Never has issue with fuel pump on any of my cars.
Anyway, now we all know that some newer Toyota/Lexus models have defect fuel pump.

It may not be bad fuel, there’s a recall in the works for multiple 2019+ Lexus vehicles due to bad fuel pumps from their supplier. Very well could be that you fall into the slim category of other models effected with no recall issued. This can occur due to no real field issues/complaints or not enough to register a campaign.

It's just a known issue with a lot of Lexus. My friends 2014 IS same issue, same with my friends 2017. I talked to the costco gas people and they even acknowledge the issue. Thing is Costco pumps just pumps fuel really fast and the Lexus just can't handle it. Easy solution is I just hold it at the 2 o clock position.

I got have a 2019 IS350 and I only get my fuel from Costco. I own the car since July 2019 and have 6k miles and haven't had an issues yet...

maybe its too early to tell?

Edit: So even if there was an issue, shouldn't this still be covered under the factory warranty?
