Default Tire Side Wall - Is it done?

Hello Guys,

I done messed up, and made a sharp turn and hit a curb.. my front tire side wall got damaged...(so did my rim)..

Is it a goner? It looks like cords are exposed..

Tires have about ~10K Miles.

I hit a curb and my side wall kind of ripped out, the chords weren't exposed but I pulled that part of the side of my sidewall out, I've been driving on it for about 10-15K miles with no problems.. I would just superglue it back on.. keep an eye out on it, if it forms a bubble then get it replaced, check to see if it's leaking air.. doesn't look too bad.

Edit: Mine leaks air (takes about 1-1.5 months for it to reach 29 psi from 40 psi) but still has good tread on it so I don't want to replace it just yet.

Yeah, in your case, cords weren't expose.. From the looks of my damage, I think these are the cords showing a bit. =\

Another question comes to mind.. should I replace tires in pair or just the one?

This set has ~10K miles.

Check to see if the tire is leaking air. Do you feel any vibrations from the steering wheel or anything weird from that damaged side?

Mileage is important but also the tread depth as well. Normally you should replace tires together, in this case in pairs depending on the tread life left on them. If the tread is low, I'd replace the pair together.

I will not think the thread is low. Most of my miles come from HWY driving..

But, I guess for my peace of mind. I'll replace two, and put them in the rear.

*Also, had another tire eat a nail few months back, which I had plugged. Guess I'll replace this one too*

Replace just 1.. only 10K miles old.. and then when it's time to replace the older tire, replace both. Idk what tire you have, I have the Michelin AS3+ which I believe are rated for 40-50K.. so why replace, an essentially, a new tire?

Save your money

I have the hankook v12 evo2.. they seem to have very weak side walls...I had curbed my OEM tires before. And damage was not as significant.

Your right.. I could just do 1 tire. But would it matter where it goes?

Thinking it should go in the rear.

I'm running a squared setup btw.

yeah it's done.

The only performance tires in existence for our 3ISs is the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. Among the best in performance AND *the* best value hands down.

you should replace in pairs if you have over 8,000 miles (if we're talking front tires)

Rears raise that to 15k or so.

Yeah..damage is on the front right. I'm going to get it replaced today at America's tires, with the same hankooks.

I'm hoping to just have to replace the 1. The miles on these are mostly hwy. I don't image them being worn too much.

w/10k miles, you're just on the edge of when the inside gets excessively worn. about 15k miles. so in 5k miles, you may need to replace the other.

which hankooks are they?

Ventus12 evo2 (k120). Sq setup. 235/35/19.

I'll have to get the guys there to check if it's better to replace 1 or 2. My driving is very moderate, my oem stocks lasted me 30Kish miles.

Read online and it says if the tires only lost 2/32 - 4/32 of their original treads. It's ok to replace the damaged.

I tried looking for the same info recently myself. I think 2/32 is the most you would want before it is ideal to replace both at once? Anyone agree with 2/32 or would anything up to 4/32 be okay as well?

"Lasting" isn't the same as safe. When my stocks wore out at 15k, the entire tire had a TON of tread on it. but the VERY inside was wearing thin.

Thin overheats. heat=pops. pop=blowout. just don't push it too far, despite what 95% of the tire looks like.

You can still "last" but are rolling the dice. just take a look at the insides to be sure/safe.

Well.. a discovery.

I measured my fronts at 8/32 and rears at 5/32. I believe the tires come new at 10/32 (or 11/32, idk for sure) -- with only 10K miles wthhh.

Gonna jack up the call to inspect the inner wears..

I don't think I will be buying these again..
