Default Water Pump Dead

The dealer told me that my 2014 350 has a dying water pump which I agree with but don't agree with their ridiculous cost to fix it. I'm looking to order an aftermarket part 1)where can I find the part in Canada (other than amazon?) and what brand 2)do I need to get any other part while I'm at it? some sort of belt? 3)my temperature gauge never shows anything higher than the mid range could the thermometer be dead too?
Thanks.

The water pump isn't the bulk of the cost, the labor is. Search coparts or autzone maybe?

About $200 for the part and gasket.
i don't know much abiut what's available in Canada but this part won't be hard to get through any auto parts store. Here is the original part online...you'll get it about $50 less for aftermarket brand.
Water Pump

How many miles do you have? Can you elaborate on the symptoms?

You might as well change the drive/serpentine belt since you'll be removing it, and generally want to change the thermostat too.

You'll want threadlocker and torque the bolts to spec. It's a big part but should not be overwhelming by any means.

Imagine you'll save yourself +$300.

would the water pump be covered under factory power train warranty?

I think it would, but is OP still under warranty?

To add to the money saving aspect, a waterpump and thermostat change are a moderately difficult job if you dont know what youre doing. There is a pretty good DIY here on the forums that go through step by step on how to replace them. Goodluck!

Good idea, watch a couple videos too.
Often what is underspoken in those videos is the cleaning. Take your time really cleaning the area where your new part will be fastened down. Scrape off all that old gasket/silicone.

I agree its moderately difficult but you can do, it's a good beginner DIY project.

Rockauto.com despite being american i find will always be cheaper than any parts store in Canada (including duties and shipping, you can find 5% coupons all over the place), unless you have a major discount.
There's a Gates water pump on there for $90, you might need a serpentine belt in case you cant reuse it, but i would just replace it anyway.
Temp guage does not usually go past half because that's the operating temperature and your cooling system is doing its job.

You can go to any independent shop to get it done, which will be cheaper. Heck if you really want to go to a dealer take it to Toyota its the same engine as the Camry.... still cheaper than Lexus dealer.

I replaced the water pump on my 2IS and it is pretty easy. I mean, there is a lot of stuff to move out of the way to get to it, but there's nothing that makes it a terribly difficult job. It's just a time consuming one. I used the Aisin WPT-137 water pump as it is identical to the OEM unit. Aisin is the OEM supplier for Toyota and Lexus water pumps.

I always miss the water pump jobs on my BMW E36 and E46. Can do it in 20 minutes. The pump is held on by 4 10mm nuts and is the size of your fist. direct access on the front of the car with only the fan removed. And the pump is only $60 or $40 aftermarket.

This pump looks extremely large and time consuming to replace!

The pump is large and has something like 16 bolts holding it on. It's not really that difficult but you do have to drain all the coolant, remove the coolant reservoir, disconnect half a dozen hoses, remove the water inlet, injector driver, water pump pulley and belt just to get to them. It's about a 3 hour job.

At what mileage have these croaked? I would consider doing this as a PM if it was predictable/consistent.

Weird to see posts on this forum about almost anything requiring replacement.

I got the dealership to replace my water pump for free under the powertrain warranty. It wasn't dead but a 3rd party mechanic said there was some play in the water pump and advised me to get the changed

I have 100k KM on it. I haven't noticed any symptoms but the dealer said the coolant was empty (which I agree with) and said it must have been leaking but I haven't seen anything leaking or any residue anywhere under the hood. I'm just going off their word. The only "symptom" I have noticed around the same time is a sort of knocking sound at idle that everyone is saying is caused by a faulty fuel vapor feed but either I couldn't find it properly or there is nothing wrong it when I checked.

Is the thermostat necessary? Is that why my engine temperature never goes above mid level even when the water pump is dead which should result in higher engine temperatures?
