Default 2016 IS 350 f sport

Hello all. The lease on my 2016 IS 350 is running out. I have 38k miles on it. Thinking of just purchasing off lease. I drove a 2018 GS 350 f sport thinking I would like the extra room and found I liked the nimbleness, tightness and acceleration of my IS better. I would have thought the GS might have had a smoother ride, but it doesn't. Anyway, curious the mileage folks have on their IS 350's and if they had any issues. I've maintained mine and have had none, although wouldn't expect any at this point. Also...if I purchase, what would a Lexus extended warranty cost, say for a 7yr/100k? And is it even necessary other than piece of mind and cover what's behind the dash? Thanks

I'd never bother with an extended warranty on a Lexus. Anything that would go wrong would occur well beyond that warranty expires.

The only issue you'd ever have to consider worrying about is probably the transmission or A/C grenading but by the time that happens (200k and beyond) you'd owe your car a new transmisison anyway.

Short story, drive and enjoy forever.

I have a 2016 IS350 F-Sport with 29,560 on it and I am in a similar situation. My lease ends in June and I am leaning towards buying it out. I do not intend to do the extended warranty. I have had a few glitches with the infotainment system, but have not bothered to bring the car to Lexus because they are not reproducible with any consistency.

I have 55k miles on mine and it has a voracious appetite for tires and brakes. However, nothing has ever broken on it

Potential problems (aside from normal wear/tear) I can see with the 3IS down the road are the A/C, infotainment, door lock actuators (just a hunch), audio amp.

Everything else mostly mechanical/drivetrain wise is time tested as largely carryovers from the 2IS.

The wildcard is going to be the 200t turbo system/cooling system. All seems to be fine so far except for the boost regulator.

Dealer quoted me $4,300 for 8yr/100k. No way.

I've had both the IS and the GS, and you are right, the GS is not really a smoother ride, or at least much of one. I find that the two cars drive very, very similar to each other in how they drive. I loved my IS but needed more room for the family, so I traded it for a GS.

As for keeping your IS, I would not bother with an extended warranty. They are such great cars.

That's been my experience with Lexus in general. Also the door handle mechanisms in the past.

My 14' is at 86k and needless to say....operates perfectly no red flags.

At 38k miles your car is a toddler.
